I'm new to this engine and programming, my experience is with graphics. However, I'm trying to see if I could come up with something, so I have been working on this runner level...

Thanks!

I'm preparing more test levels :) By now, here's a download link if you want to try it. I can't check myself Linux and Mac versions, so feel free to let me know if they're working...

Wow, that's a quite interesting looking interior, are you using GI probes?

This looks pretty rocking ! Question: Can you ramp speed on running ? Just curious if that is an easily doable thing.

Thanks! Yes, I'm using a GI Probe with a Directional Light and some additional lights

I'm new to programming, so I'd have to figure that out, but I'll try to do it! thanks for your comment

These test levels are free, here's the download link: https://sebasmartin.itch.io/workdone

When GIProbe is disabled, consider decreasing the Environment's Sky Contribution property to 0.5 to avoid making scenes too bright and bland.

I'd be down to provide some voice over work if my character has the fattest neck. My voice sounds really plain and won't distract from your work.

Looks great. Reminds me of the big head Dennis Rodman in NBA Jam, LOL.

That's impressive.

Is the four-legged rectangular thing a prototype for a dog?

    DaveTheCoder
It's some kind of four-legged spider... it fits the style of the game so, I could leave it like that, or at least by now...
    Thank you!

    cybereality Thanks!

    sebas Update: new mission added!

The only thing I don't really like about this episode is that the flying saucer is overlapping the asteroids and making it difficult to aim. 🙁

Tomcat Oh! I see... what could it be changed? the camera to a higher or a diagonal position... ?

sebas I see... what could it be changed? the camera to a higher or a diagonal position... ?

If you raise the camera so that it looks slightly downwards — that would be, in my opinion, the simplest and most trivial solution. But "without the gimmick". For the prototype, it would be fine.

A diagonal position… probably more difficult to aim.

          Tomcat

This is the tutorial I followed for that level. I thought it wasn't necessary but, I should put the aim system that way with the little target sprites... right?

sebas I thought it wasn't necessary but, I should put the aim system that way with the little target sprites... right?

            Possibly… but there's a different problem here.

I wouldn't call this tutorial overly correct. At least in terms of design. The footage shows the shuttle overlapping both the target (asteroid) and the aiming mark. It doesn't feel right. But then again, you're not making a full game now, are you? For training practice, it's quite successful. You just have to keep in mind that in a full game, the player model shouldn't overlap the enemies and aiming devices. It's a common problem with 3rd person view.

              Tomcat

These test levels I'm doing are shaping a story. This mission with the asteroids would eventually be in a full game, but it's just one-mission-level (by now), the other levels/missions are not this way of gameplay. I will try to see if I could raise the camera and put the aiming mark to improve it...

What about switching the camera to the pilot's point of view?

                DaveTheCoder

It could be an option, but the game is a third-person adventure and I didn't want first-person gameplay... maybe for some levels I would make an exception, not sure... or seeing the pilots inside the cockpit would make it third-person...

sebas changed the title to Work Done (early access) .

sebas In this new update there's a new level and a secondary menu to select present and past missions directly...

                • In the main menu, when clicking on Home the game hangs. 💤
                • When swimming underwater (Deep Dive), red "stars" sometimes appear suddenly too close in front (under the very nose) and there is no possibility to dodge. 🙁

                  Tomcat

The 'Home' level is a bit large... maybe I should put a loading screen just for that level. If you wait, it loads... right?

About the red gems while swimming, you should be very careful, it's a bit of a challenge. Most of the levels are super easy, but I wanted this to be a bit difficult, it's not meant to be done in one try, you need two or three times... how many tries did you need? the trick is to concentrate and don't make any fast move, just left and right softly, it needs focus and patient 🙂

Thank you very much for your feedback!

sebas If you wait, it loads... right?

There is such a trick: if you click once and wait — yeah, after a couple or three seconds the level loads. But if, during the loading process, you click a few more times just on the screen, then first a black screen appears, and then the main menu in a light, frozen background. And after that the level does not load. Perhaps this is a problem of the engine.

                      Tomcat

Oh, I see... maybe I could disable the mouse after the first click and until the level loads? my programming skills are very limited, but I will look into it. Thanks!

sebas maybe I could disable the mouse after the first click and until the level loads?

I think making the loading screen and disabling the mouse on this scene is a good idea.

sebas but I wanted this to be a bit difficult, it's not meant to be done in one try, you need two or three times... how many tries did you need?

Red gems sometimes occur too close and immediately touch the player. Perhaps this only happens on the border. But there is no way to react in such a case. I probably could have gotten through the first time, but I wondered what would happen if I touched a red one. After that it took me 4 tries. I was expecting to just reset the count of gems collected. By the way, you could add gems of another color that just reset the count of collected gems.

my programming skills are very limited

In a similar situation I used the await, which is not a favorite here.

I'm switching from Godot 3 to Godot 4, here's my new test level...

                        Play it here: https://sebasmartin.itch.io/workdone
You pay $1, or more, to play the game: it's minimum 30 minutes of gameplay, plus additional upcoming new levels/missions (made in Godot 4 from now on) that will be published, most likely, twice a year.
Recommended specs: i5, 8 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050
