I think there's something wrong in 4.2

i exported (from blender) a character with animations directly into the game folder and then when i went to change the name of some animations, it won't let me. (as expected) It tells me to 'enable "Save To File"'

I did that.
I still don't get any of the options

I've done this before in this project, but that was before updating. It worked before, in 4.1.3

I might be doing something wrong, but im doing pretty much the same as before. I messed around for an hour or more at this point and im too tired for this right now lol, ill mess around again tomorrow

Legit Try deleting your .godot directory.

Toxe doesn't sound like good advice now, does it

Legit Why not? Deleting the .godot directory and letting Godot recreate it has solved a lot of issues for people in the past and should always be one of the first things to try when encountering weird problems.

sounds like deleting sys32 to me
idk im pretty new to this tbf

Having said that, i just tried importing the character onto a fresh empty project (in 4.2) and it doesn't seem to work.
But it does work on 4.1.3. I just tried
Im pretty sure i did exactly the same thing.

So i don't think it's related to the project. When you say .godot, you mean inside the project right? i dont think that would help in this case

So i thought i could just import the character into 4.1.3, then open in with 4.2, upgrade the mesh like it asks me to do, then somehow copy the animations i need to the other project.
i dont think i can copy things from one project to another like that

I think im just gonna skip death animations for this project for now.

No it's completely different. Godot automatically recreates everything in the .godot directory and everything in there is just temporary. That's also why you don't put this directory under version control or usually delete it when you share your project with someone else.

But when in doubt just make a backup of your whole project before deleting anything.

Legit When you say .godot, you mean inside the project right?

Yes in the same directory that contains your project.godot file.

Toxe Godot automatically recreates everything in the .godot directory and everything in there is just temporary.

yeah that's what i figured, thanks for the explanation.

Toxe don't put this directory under version control

            what does that mean?

also i edited my response a bit
tldr i think im just gonna move on from now, it does seem like an issue with 4.2 imo
i guess i could just finish the project in 4.1.3, but hwatever im done wiht this. it's just a tutorial anw
