Godot has an Asset Store. Apparently there will soon be mostly paid ones.

As bad as it sounds being paid it´s actually a good thing. Once people learn you can make money out of Godot, many will flock to make new kits and assests with professional quality emerging eventually. Offer and demand will lower the prices as well as time passes.
Now I can see people getting annoyed at a Libre software getting lots of paid content since it goes agaisnt its spirit, but otherwise we won´t be getting pro level content. This also leads us to asset flips and many other evils, but I guess it goes with the job.
Gowydot The link doesn't look like it points to Godot official site? (store_mordor_systems)
Yeah, it's an alpha version.

It's actually pretty bad. When commerce comes in, humanity goes out. (I'm not sure that term is sufficiently understood by members of “Western civilization” and its derivatives who measure everything by money.) There are no good trades.

After being a contributor to Open Game Art for more than a decade I can tell you that free art is wildly inconsistant even within the same artist. Sure, money grubbing is bad but good luck getting a full set that is free unless you make it yourself. Most people who want to make a game don´t have the time nor knowledge to create all assests needed for game making, some are pure programmers who can´t do art to save their lifes... As little as I like it, this is where paid things come in, pay and get all you need (and look the same as a gazillion more games using the same set).

There are also a lot of artists who want to make games but lack programming skills.
But in general you are right, maybe the next (non-Western) civilization will be more humane and not so fixated on “despicable metal”.
If anyone is interested, paid assets for Godot already exist.

That would be me, learned coding like 25 years ago and never used it; I would like to get into it again with GDscript but life gets in the way, there are far more important things to take care of when you are an adult with responsabilities. So that ready made code sample/projects helps a lot, same problem as art though, everything looks like an asset flip.

Sadly being greedy is human nature, maybe something more benign will come after capitalism, let´s hope there is still a world to live on when that happens.

Well, I was referring to myself in particular. It's been over 30 years since I studied coding.

I'm trying to create my own project using free assets and programs. The main reasons are::
So far, it's rather turning out — the concept works.
Sadly being greedy is human nature,
This is already psychology, which is worse than politics. But I will note that the main quality of a person is not greed, but laziness.
maybe something more benign will come after capitalism
Politics again. I have lived under different formations, in my country several political and economic systems have changed during my life. And from my experience I can say that even wild “initial” capitalism is better than mature “developed” socialism.
Tomcat It is planned that users can fill the game themselves — create content [with paid programs and assets there may be “author's” problems].
If I ever get to make my game I will make a non-official free packet with licensed famous characters, publish it anonymously and totally deny it was me . Also let it open so other people add their own models.
My concept is already fleshed out, no idea if it´s fun or not though. Turning it into reality? much less.
I kinda dont approve asset stores, this will mean that all the games indies gon make will be using the same asset and it will look all too similar. its like once one started to wear suit everybody else wearing suits and then we went to ww1 and then ww2 and so on..
Look at millions of unity asset flips that flooded the steam store and others stores.. people are producing garbage just to make a buck or two.. and then you cant find a gem of a game because they are burried under them garbage cards
It would be nice for artists to showcase their skills and art direction they can go, so that they can maybe co-work with programmers to do something great again..
kuligs2 its like once one started to wear suit everybody else wearing suits and then we went to ww1 and then ww2 and so on..
DaveTheCoder Not funny considering we are inching towards WW3... You see Kuligs2, years ago BlendSwap, Open Game Art and FreeGameDev were excelent places to look for colaborations, nowadays those are on life support and I have no frigging idea where people do it these days...

On one hand I agree, on the other it's fair for artists and programmers to wanna get compensated for work they do for others in their free time. I far prefer the "it's free, but donate if you want", but I also understand that most people don't donate, and I know from second hand experiences that when you're in a tight spot that extra bit of money from selling art can go a long way. Of course I would be happier if we lived in a non-capitalist society and this wasn't necessary at all, but we don't. I am worried about scammers flooding the store with slop or trying to sell stolen/free assets once they find out about it :-/
hmm I just bought the godot bundle from HB, it seems to be decent in quality and consistent art style( Though I just took a brief look at the DL'd pack), so imo a paid asset store will save me alot of time at the costs of some cash.
kuligs2 smelly BO discord rooms
kuligs2 Not like I have time to collaborate these days... but I barely see anything new coming to OGA/Blendswap, don´t people create new art? I don´t think everyone goes automatically to some store to sell their colored cube made in Blender. But I also don´t find any webpage that is more popular for sharing. There is sketchab, but it´s a total minefield of stolen and licensed models.
Danimal Maybe its wave like pattern, there will be times where you see lots of creations being shared because people have more free time, like students, practicing skills while having no life.. After graduation they job hunt and get busy with life so no time to mess around..
While being creative might be fun for some, it certaintly hard to earn money becasue its hard to put a price on creativity.. A good artists is a dead artists as they say.
I too suffer this fate, as my game dev journey stopped atm, because of life reasons.. cant find a time to set my mind to be creative and willing to learn..
But i keep that channel open, hopefully, once i get some garbage of a so called game done, the next goal would be something more polished, and who knows maybe by that time someone might want to collab.
