SO just saying a RTS with rainbow unicorns vs attack helicopters would be pretty original.... an Apache and "sprinkles" facing off may get interesting... i will be taking bets.
XYZ is just voicing the extremist nature displayed on both sides in a coy manner (i did "lol" personally). id think we all have the ability to see when something/someone is being too abrasive with their actions, and both parties have gone a little too far here overall.
The whole point of having different parties is to decide HOW to achieve the SAME goal for the betterment of the people. somewhere along the line the world got stuck in a realm of extremes and people are missing the whole... work together aspect.... for the betterment of everyone.
With that said i support the journey of the fork, as long as its headed in a meaningful direction... i really hope it doesn't continue to polarize the environment anymore than has been done here recently. I will still use Godot. Its was my last stop after trying the other engines and i have grown to appreciate the community more than anything.

@MikeCL i will support whatever decision that is made on the forum... this is a great environment and you managed to keep this site "safe" from the BS.... kudos, really! I am "salty" about the outcome still, but it has little effect on me personally (so it does make me feel stupid being this way)... I just foresee this event being being the first step in a bad direction of partisan tactics. It is always best to treat a cancer before it spreads.

    if you say REDOT in the OFFICIAL discord it gives you a time-out and you cant post anything.... i literally tried asking about what people knew and if they tried it... guess Godot has an official stance on the fork now..... or they are letting the same person control their message... either way... pretty much the same tactics at work.

    Well, you can use any engine you want or even create your own. For me this topic is more painful because if the engine dies I will be sad.

              i managed to have a somewhat civil conversation with the mods on discord (wow right? (i do know one of them already though so maybe that helped)). I did receive the "reasoning" behind the Redot word being blocked ... though it was lackluster at best, stating it helps manage the posts/flag them accordingly.
              they dogged the fork hard! i tried to reason with them about their bias perspective, and found somewhat of a middle ground. if people shouldn't be mad at Godot for this action, then they shouldn't be mad about Redot just the same, and "why" its doing what it is... both engines could benefit unless the community(s) decide to build the barrier.
              Kind of a side note:
              i watched 3 people get banned today so far. no one was being hateful, just didn't agree or had varying opinion. after being attacked by the group on there..... two may have deserved it (arguably, they were pushed hard), but one guy was explaining being against what Godot did doesn't make him a homophobe because that was what someone was being called for saying so... they began calling him a white supremacist and a nazi (of course), when he stated no one should care about who/what someone is only how productive they are... he was blocked and they (mods included) bashed him and continued to spread the narrative.
              they went on to address how his perspective is ok for him to have and to only share that behind closed doors... that if he goes in public with his opinion he should be "shown" his ways are incorrect.
              I explained that was what the real Nazis originally said about the jews... practicing their beliefs at home, not in public.... and we all know how that story unfolded. They insisted its ok because HE is the Nazi....

              As of now, they don't have anything to try yet. There is no download or anything like that. And even if there was, it would so far only be the same as Godot but lagging behind upstream a bit.

              They do have plans to incorporate UX changes and go through old stale Godot PRs, while also keeping compatibility with Godot. This seems like quite an effort to me personally, merging changes but at the same time ensuring the changes don't break any compatibility. If they can manage to pull that off, then I'll definitely be impressed.

              Also just as a general note if we ignore the circumstances around it: Redot existing is the power of open source. It is perfectly normal for forks to exist! I just don't think they have the clear technical direction that would be needed for a successful fork. Like look for example at Godex, an ECS fork of Godot. They had a very very clear technical direction: ECS for Godot. And still they didn't pick up a lot of tracktion in the end.
              Redot in my opion doesn't even have such a clear technical direction (at least from what I could gather from their announcement stream). So I personally don't think it will pick up a lot of traction long term.

              As for this, the reason is not that it's controversial. It was just too much spam, instead of legitimate questions like yours. So we created a space where it's allowed so that the rest of the server can continue what we all like more: creating games

              Redot's minuses (IMO):

              1. YT (why can't other video services be used?).
              2. Discord and Twitter (I'm not comfortable with that at all, there's Mastodon).
              3. GitHub (could have used GitLab or another solution)
              4. Haven't heard anything about the engine's website.

              This situation allows for a revision of the engine: abandon old compatibilities in favor of optimization and new features. So far I don't see any attempts to realize this. The painful issue is 3D physics.

              But the very existence of a fork is certainly pleasing.

              kuligs2 4) People want to replace gdscript, redot does not, not at the moment.

              what to change it to? Language creation, as I suspect, is a complicated thing. And GDScript is very handy for initial training.

                    Yeah I was paraphrasing Linietsky's comment, who in turn was referring to that vapid meme. That was quite untactful from his side imo, given the situation. But that's beside the point. My point was that this fork looked like a hasty kneejerk reaction. Not very good optics (nor karma). Although, to be fair, the thing likely brewed under the surface for some time. This just drove it over the edge. And they might have done it at this moment purely to capitalize on publicity.

                        Tomcat I think they need a couple of weeks to land a bit. Maybe a sign that the project was launched or rushed prematurely due to the events that happened.

                        Only thing now is just to wait and see how things unfold or contribute if you feel it's a project for you. I wish them luck and I'll be following the progress.

                                                    When you two release this, I'll appear out of nowehere and claim the right to 10% royalties as a primary originator of the concept. Just hurry up while the drama is still hot and can drive sales. From marketing perspective it'd be best to release two versions; one made with Godot and the other with Redot, differing only in microtransaction content bias towards each respective side. You wouldn't want to miss on that polarization dollar.
