  • Conquer [a Mirror multiplayer game] - WIP

Hi all,

Announcing a new game project. I wanted to learn The Mirror on a deeper level and try out its features. So I decided that I would create a minigame in it.

I call it Conquer.

The objective is for the player to get over to the enemy's base, if successful to do so, it will score your team a point.
The catch is that, the way to the other side is very narrow so you will be forced to meet the opposing team, and both teams have weapons. Die and you will respawn at the start.

There's a maximum of 8 players (4 players on each team) in total for this game.

The following screenshots are very much WIP, grey boxes/meshes, as I'm currently focusing on getting the gameplay in place before I polish the graphics.





As I create the game, I'm also creating a new asset pack that I hope to make available for other people to use in their game/space (some of the assets seen in the screenshots).

Also, full disclosure on the screenshots, not all assets that are shown are made by me (picked from the Mirror asset library).

The game space is available for observation as I build the game if any of you want to check it out. If you are lucky, you might catch me
in the action of making the game. 🙂

I figured I could share my journey with it.

gocat Hehe.. that is correct.. Not only that, you can also run around the environment with your avatar at the same time. With your own "space" you can even invite your friends and collaborate on making the game in realtime. It's a really cool experience!

Working on some of the last gameplay mechanics. Would love to playtest it with people here if anyone's interested once those details are in place.

Yes indeed.
I joined Mike in his space from time to time.
If you have your own space you have options for "visitor-roles".
Different roles with different rights to view or change things in the space.
You can also ban people from your space.

The experience is great when working with other people in the same space.

So, pretty much done blocking out the arena.


Now just need to test and make sure everything works 😛

Hi all! hope you are having a great weekend.

Here's yet another graphical update on the project. All captured in Godot (4.1.1).

Some updates include:

  • Animated flags
  • Grandstands
  • bridges got some more love with side pieces

Also wanted to get a feel for how the level would play so I threw in a Character/FPS controller for me to run around with. Imagine the arena filled with players, battling each other to get to the other side. Looking forward to playtesting this, hopefully won't take too long before that can happen.

    I already see some problem areas that need to be fixed in a second art pass, like the grandstands blending in too much with the arena. But yeah. everything is still a work in progress, and will get a second and third art pass, be tweaked and tuned, etc.
