I am not talking about the AAA MMORPG game that is like the epiphany of games for you. But what games, based on your potential skills and capacities you would like to have made.

In other words, what games would you start doing if they wouldn't be done already? Or maybe you will do with a personal twist.

My list goes on and on... I would like to know about yours

I would like to have made "To the Moon." Something probably out of most indies would be "Brothers, a tale of two sons", but I think I could make a shorter game something like it. And Betrayal at Krondor, which is too old, but for inspiration. I'm actually using it for inspiration on the game I'm working on. Not the story, but the gameplay mechanics.

I would also love make a new bomberman- it could sell really well on the switch and actually be a TON of fun. There's got to already be a modern version up I bet.

Nuclear Throne, even Super Crate Box (freely available on Vlambeer website if it still exists) are awesome in their design... although pretty hard to achieve similar result as they do.
My list include Bomberman too, quite a classic, especially the original game on MegaDrive, other, yet forgotten, classics could be great to do:

    • Bombjack
    • Island of Dr Destructo
    • 5th Axis
    • Ranarama
    • MagMax
    • MetroCross
(all from Amstrad CPC and other 8bits computer)

starting to feel like making a vampire survivors clone is becoming a stepping stone for aspiring developers... like the next step after pong > space invaders > 2D platformer.

      JusTiCe8

      bombjack

there has been exactly one attempt at a spiritual successor I know of for that game, and for some reason it's BDSM themed. even the name is kinda naughty, mighty jill off.

as for myself, I aspire to make my own doom-clone at some point. I'm also currently working on a "definitely not alien breed for the amiga" game right at this moment.

most of my other game ideas are a bit too unique and original in ideas to be considered a clone of something though. like one of them being a mix between pacman, metal gear solid, diner dash and office space. if you "steal" that idea and get anything close to what I have in my head then you're a telepath.

bit more macabre and dark here, but I want to make an idle game too someday except you torture people tied to chairs for money. I guess that's the me who grew up on newgrounds seeing people push social boundaries with crude flash games talking.

samuraidan I like playing games that are rated for 12 and above. If I have to put in my birthday, I know I don't want to play it.

i think that if i can in the future(if i still have a pulse), i would try to make a fantasy zone fangame, something like they did with street of rage, i could even do it in godot.

now that you mention it, I haven't seen that many defender/ fantasy zone style shmups come out over the last decade. most of them are the autoscrolling kind.

fire7side I'm not sure why you told me this but okay, cool.

samuraidan The little black bar reminded me of it, but I have trouble staying on topic so just ignore me if it doesn't make sense.

A modern version of Lemmings would be nice, on Xbox.

Damn you Sony and your purchase of Psygnosis to get Lemmings PS exclusive.

Also, I realise Codemasters would never legally allow it, but I'd also like modern day 2D or 3D remakes of the Dizzy games, and Seymour goes to Hollywood or Wild West Seymour.

GodotBeginnerRich I don't think there's enough to separate it from any other 2D platformer in this day and age to make a dizzy remake worthwhile, from what I can see. at most I could see an HD collection. if they put all the dizzy games together the sheer content of it would make that a worthwhile purchase.

as for lemmings, I can find a handful of modernized clones but not many. and they all look so corporate and soulless. like Flockers. look at that and try to tell me someone with passion made it.

el_malo Fantasy Zone is also secretly in my "inspiration" games list too 🙂

One game I'd really like to see, would be a modern version of Dungeon Master, which was popular on the Amiga circa late 80s/early 90s.

Kinda reminds me of Knightmare, a British kids' game show which ran on CITV from 1989 to 1996.

GodotBeginnerRich that game looks to me like wizardry but you can see and fight the monsters in real time.
...kinda reminds of a simplified ultima underworld, actually.

Always wanted to make either a futuristic racing game, or a Lovecraftian survival horror with intentionally awful controls (think Alone In The Dark).

It’s beyond my current skills, but I’d love to have made KSP. That game is just so awesome.

d2clon Worms Armageddon (Must be funny to do it)

I can tell you upfront: creating W:A in Godot Engine is a nightmare. W:A has a very complex, custom engine, with multiple layers of backward and forward compatibility to ensure determinism across versions. You'd definitely have to recompile Godot from the source to replicate W:A. I'm currently working on such a game and used Godot for a long time to make it, but I have eventually switched to Unity.

Many of the destructible features that you observe being utilized in Godot games are a result of contributions I made to Godot in the past, like this one:

As you can imagine, I'm an enthusiastic professional player of W:A (I participated in numerous paid cups). You can go through discussions at TUS, a popular site for W:A, particularly this thread which discusses the game I've been working on.

Of course, the fact that I'm permanently banned by the project manager of Godot is another reason why I switched to Unity, since I'm unable to contribute to Godot anymore, and maintaining a custom fork of it is unsustainable. If you ever meet Rémi Verschelde, say "Hello" for me. 🙃

For those who don't know, I'm a co-author of Godot.

Xrayez Thanks a lot for the deep contribution to the conversation. Very often we (me at least) underestimate the complexity of what they look like simple games on the surface... I'm sad to read you moved to unity. And also sad to read about your conflicts with the project manager. There have been so many negative conversations lately in the community, I hope the main mood remains positive.
