Do you think art like this would be good enough for an MMO space game? Or should I work on different design?
I don't want to make the space MMO and then everyone turn away because of artwork.

I think for a mobile game type thing(i.e. less demanding game) the style is fine but I think it could be improved in terms of technical merits.
That's a very loaded question lol, for a low poly model, this isn't bad, I don't know what your programming experience is but even as someone who's getting experience myself now I would stay the hell away from MMO's especially if it's your first title. It's a major gamble at the best of times and I am somebody who has studied them a lot, you would be so much better off either doing a pure singleplayer game or a singleplayer game with multiplayer attached. You could even release a singleplayer game then add multiplayer on later, you don't need to go the MMO route at all and it would still be something people will want to play.
It depends on the gamer I think, but for me, as long as the artwork and UI looks relatively clean, I'm totally fine with low poly artwork, in fact these days I tend to prefer it because then I know my game isn't likely to run like garbage even on my mid-range desktop, some people even prefer 2D games specifically for that reason. Rimworld for example is just a bunch of 2D sprites cleverly programmed and that's a game that keeps doing incredibly well on the steam charts.
I realise I've just posted up a ton of information but I feel like you should take it from somebody who's done the research already. In terms of space sims, I would much rather see a nice singleplayer experience with optional multiplayer these days than another MMO that barely has any of the funding required to keep the servers up and running for hosting.
TLDR: I think any games developer in this day and age should stay the hell away from MMOs, the risk vs reward just isn't worth it and I haven't even gone into the potential legal liabilities a modern game dev has to worry about when it comes to multiplayer games.
I've been trying to figure out how to do space ships for a game for some time now but my brain just can't figure it out. There's just too much we want from our space ships, we want to grow them, customize them, outfit them, dock them, have them move realistically, carry drones, and more. I agree with Lethn, better start with single player.
Erich_L There is a blender plugin called spaceship generator on github, you could generate random shaped spaceship from 'seed', though the materials nodes generated by that generator cannot be converted to godot's materials, so you could only import spaceship w/o materials.
I was thinking of making it open source, and creative commons. And not taking donations. Freely hosted. It is lots of work that needs done. I am not certain what I will do at the moment, single player of multi. It will need art either way. Here is a couple more objects I created for it.
Maybe it will work? I have my own idea for the game which I think would be different from other space games.
I just hope my simple and quick art is good enough.
I hate to be that guy, but if you feel a need to ask "is it good enough" you probably know the answer already.
I would highly recommend downloading blender and going to town with some tutorials, even having some decent low poly modelling knowledge will drastically help any indie dev achieve what they're aiming for, you should also have a look at studying shaders for the planets.
Hi! I am a graphic designer from the Netherlands. I like the shape of it, but i think it lacks a bit in contrast with the background. Maybe more lighting and blue-ish color? The flame should be very bright i think.
Some importants questions i think your should ask:
newmodels I say that you shouldn’t quit from lt. You’ll get better with modeling. I suggest making low graphic models for prototype, that way you’ll see your game how it is then replace them wlth better artworks. It has good potential as it is though.
I think using place holders is good idea.
How about this design, think it would work better?
That's already looking better, I always proselytise Blender to devs, even if you're only doing something basic it does make a massive difference to the look of your game, slap on some decent textures to your ships and planets and you're good to go. By the way, another piece of software I like to recommend is Krita, it has a wrap around view mode which allows you to create seamless textures without having to do the annoying maths.
I am not going to make the space game. I had a dream warning me of a greate tribulation that would happen.
