  • This is the first I've heard of Mirror, I'll be sure to look more into it. Seems quite interesting! :3

  • I can see some cons to decentralization. However I dinnae really see it being bad personally. If anything it allows for more ways to find answers or interact with folks outside of certain sites.

Imagine only being able to talk about Godot stuff on Twitter/X. Och... what a nightmare that'd be. (I know it could just be the other forum instead btw, but still lol)

  • Same as you lad. You can never go wrong with open source software, even if they may have bugs or missing features compared to proprietary counterparts. That being said, before switching over, I had used Clip Studio Paint for a good while. Which I found extremely useful! Shame it doesnae support Linux however. :V

I also have Aseperite, which I hope to use more in the future.

  • xyz Och I didnae even think about using shaders, I should probably try to learn them soon also then. Will be very useful. Thanks for the feedback and help friend!

  • Also I just realized while typing this, that the answer for adding stuff like the approved stamp or seals could be solved by having that as another sprite that's hidden until revealed in code. But aye, I still would like to hear what yous think. Also if yous need the image of it in Godot itself, please let me know. :V

    • xyz replied to this.
    • (tldr on bottom)

Working on a Papers Please type game in a 3D environment (Kind of, don't wanna give too much away). Have some wee basic camera turning, and now trying to see how to go about creating a passport lol.

What I want to do in the near future is use Label3D or a changeable text of some kind to change values I have planned for these front and back sprites using scripts.

      The Sprites in question:

Thing is however. As far as I can see, there is no such thing as a double sided Sprite3D (Well there is, but it's just the same sprite but flipped) with no obvious option to switch it. The best I have right now is sticking two Spirte3D's onto each other, not sure if that's very optimal though 😛. Furthermore, if I wanna change these sprites in game (Adding a "Approved" stamp for example), I may have to do weird crap with it. Alongside the fact it doesn't shine, and adding materials doesnae make it look good.

Anyway I guess what I'm trying to say is, is using Sprite3D's actually the proper way to go about this? Or will I need to put them in blender, and make models out of them to do stuff? Which honestly I'm kinda hoping to avoid since they seem and should be very simple to make on the surface besides the code part. If there's a better way than those two as well, then I'd love to hear it! Thanks in advance. :3

Tldr: Making a Papers Please like game. Trying to make a passport with two Sprite3Ds, and not sure if it'll work out due to materials and changing sprites. And should I make models out of them instead? Or do another thing?

    • Tomcat Och well that's fine then, they're not a big deal anyway, just wanted to mention them. Once again though what they've done looks freakin good!

    • Downloaded earlier today to see what it was like for a wee bit. Gotta say lad, the presentation and ui you have here is absolutely stellar!

Even though it may be more preferable to have a sort of tutorial mode within the engine itself for easy access of sorts (I remember seeing something along those lines from a Twitter post someone made as a possible addition at one point), this will still be loads of help for new folks starting out. 😃

My only critiques (They're honestly nit-picky, but I thought I'd mention them real quick in case they helped):

      1. When I did the practice level to turn the robot 0.5 radians. For fun, I tried rotate((PI * 2) + 0.5) to see if it'd still qualify as a completion, since it's basically the same as before but only slightly more complicated. It didn't qualify because it's still technically more than 0.5 lol. Just wanted to throw this out there since I felt it could've rewarded for some clever/creative/or even other strange ways to still complete a goal.

      2. No sound effects or music. Not a big deal really, especially for a learning app. But still would've been a nice touch personally. As well as an optional setting to enable/disable them.

But aye, this will be very useful to refresh myself or others on stuff outside of using docs too if need be. Great job friend! :3

      • The year of my birth is the same year the first Shrek movie came into existence. And the best part? I'm Scottish.

        Coincidence? I think freakin not!

      • Hello folks, Unicorn ere! 🦄

Just your average gamer Scotsman who likes equines. I like to do a variety of creative things whenever I feel like it, from art, to music-making, writing, and of course coding! :3 (Been looking into modeling a wee bit too)

Been looking at the forums for around two days now and I'm already happy enough to call this a great source of code help and creativity, hopefully I'll be at least a bit active on here. Cannae wait to see more of what this place has to offer!
