Welp.. it is not production ready.

Compiled, and threw it into my green guy project, and he falls through floor, as if no collisions.. and bunch of errors.. 🙁 Im still hopefull

There is no strict need to compile it yourself. There is a test project in the repository, and it works.

There are some errors, but they're a bit strange — it says it can't find the library, even though it's clearly in the specified location.

 ERROR: platform/windows/os_windows.cpp:483 - Condition "!FileAccess::exists(path)" is true. Returning: ERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND
 ERROR: GDExtension dynamic library not found: 'res://addons/godot-box3d/godot-box3d.gdextension'.

Tomcat the error itself says it all, it cant find the libs.

Godot probably defaults to some other physics engine instead of crashing.

It's much more interesting there. The physics engine isn't visible in the Extensions tab. But it's specifically listed in the project settings.

If you look at the demo project demo_scene.gd, there's a line that reads

ProjectSettings.get_setting("physics/3d/physics_engine")

and the output panel reports

Active physics engine setting: Box3D Physics (Extension)

so it looks like that’s the engine that’s actually being used.

You can try forcing the setting in the project settings project.godot:

[physics]

3d/physics_engine=“Box3D Physics (Extension)”

and see what happens.

It seems like the library needs to be compiled, but then it’s unclear which physics engine is actually being used — is it being overridden or something?

Building

The project builds with CMake:
cmake -B build
cmake --build build
The resulting library is placed in bin/ and loaded via godot-box3d.gdextension. Copy bin/ and the .gdextension file into your project, then select the Box3D physics server in your project settings.

its a standard practice. developer doesnt know what kind of system you have, he cant compile for every system out there.

And how many systems are there in total? And how many of them account for roughly 90% of users?

This is a flawed practice. And it's very sad that it has become the "standard" in this absolutely insane world. People have to perform exactly the same rituals to compile exactly the same libraries — in other words, they have to do completely pointless work at the expense of a completely irreplaceable resource: human time. The most common libraries would suffice: Windows, Linux, and perhaps Android — the same ones for which Godot editors are available. But even just the first two would be more than enough.

Tomcat its not just windows linux, its windows 32bit, windows 64bit, linux same, arm32 arm64 etc etc.. aint nobody gonna compile stuff for things they cant test on.

besides, code here is free, anybody can compile it.. for me it took 2min to set everything up on windows.. its no biggie, and you can ask free tier LLM chatbot to help you out. it helped me because i didnt wnat to deal with powershell shenanigans and garbage, i just need commands to copy and paste..

So, it didn't run for you — did you compile it incorrectly, or was it a developer error?

if youre reffering to me, you clearly didnt look what was posted before. engine didnt crash, errors were thrown because not all collision shapes are implemented, amongs other unimplemented things. demo project worked.

I dont. factory is already built and produces free tools, use it to your advantage, or just sit there rubbing one out for hours to make a single flame.

im not sure if we are on the same topic as i was speaking in general terms of systems out there.

and why are you getting mad at me for not compiling the code? its not my code.

A finished product is taken and used. Whether it's matches or a software library is irrelevant. A tool is what's required to create such a finished product, not the product itself.

I'm not demanding that you compile the library, and I have no complaints about you. If that's the impression you're getting, it's probably because we're communicating in a barbaric, unintelligible language and using poorly translated text.

But this discussion is starting to tire me a bit, since we're discussing a specific situation, and you're talking "in general" about developing games using ATMs, which is a "substitution of concepts"—that is, a technique of demagoguery. I'm not "getting mad at" you for not compiling someone else's library, but I'm upset that you're using demagoguery. I'm not interested in having this conversation right now. Sorry.

Not sure what demagoguery im using in this situation, im just relaying what someone has relayed to m years ago in a similar situation where a questions were asked about why's and why's not. this was said to me and i said it to you. take it or leave it. its up to you, yet you just couldn’t let it go thats why we found ourselves arguing about nothing.

Personally i hate when developers dont leave instructions on how to compile the code and use it. many chinise repositories i came across did that. and they dont even bother to leave comments in english.

In this example there was readme that explains what to do, its as simple as copy paste few commands, given you have environment set up to compile things. as a developer you should.

for me it didnt take hours, but few minutes to compile, copy n paste and it works, but not as expected due to limitations of the "translation" and not all features are implemented as i showed.

trust me, im all forth binaries, as most of the time im too lazy to do anything, i just want this thing to work. but when you have something interesting and it requires a bit of tinkering, its worth the effort to make it work.
