Because I hate Microsoft. They believe that everyone who wants to use a computer has to pay them for the privilege and use software that they own and control.

I once attended a developers' workshop at Microsoft's campus in Seattle, WA. They have a huge, worldwide empire that needs to be fed by extorting money from customers.

With Linux, I have many choices. If I find something I like, I can install it wherever I want, upgrade it (or not upgrade it) whenever I want. If I find something I like more, I can switch to it. If something's not working, and no one is maintaining it, I can fix it myself if I want to spend the time and effort.

Well, to put it mildly, that’s not the case at all. You’re attributing thoughts to them that they don’t have (you assume they think that way without any clear basis for it). I don’t pay them anything — I simply can’t afford to. And they leave loopholes for cases like this. Moreover, they clearly have the ability to close them, but they leave them open on purpose. And the fact that you might very well be controlled by another system — that doesn’t bother you.

Because I hate Microsoft.

It’s purely emotional and completely illogical.

Since this was posted much later than my original reply, I’ll address it separately.

If I find something I like, I can install it wherever I want, upgrade it (or not upgrade it) whenever I want. If I find something I like more, I can switch to it. If something's not working, and no one is maintaining it, I can fix it myself if I want to spend the time and effort.

You can do the same with Windows. People explore it and bring back useful features (like a slim taskbar) or introduce new ones (like folder sizes in File Explorer). They disable updates and telemetry, and you can test exactly how everything works. The main difference from Linux users is that Windows users usually share useful programs—if one person creates something, many others use it, and no one has to reinvent the wheel. This saves a ton of time.

Well, at least I tried to argue my point of view. You, on the other hand, are just acting on emotion. So the question of who’s more deranged here isn’t so clear-cut.

MS wants and is trying to control what you can do with the computer you think you own.
They forced the bitlocker on laptops and tied it down to that TPM chip that they forced you to buy and there were cases where laptop died and you tried to move the hdd to another computer even with the bitlocker key, you could not unlock it.

Also then there is this thing as secure boot. This is MS invention and forced upon every PC. And they dont warn you when you disable secure boot you cant boot back into windows, because windows needs them secure boot keys or something that secure boot generates.. so when you test linux and disable and enable secure boot for soem reason, the windows partition will die.

Then, there is this situation where if you set up dualboot on YOUR computer to boot windows and linux, windows will detect grub and nuke the bootloader and so after a restart from windows, your linux partition will not be bootable, because windows did the thinking for you instead.

And now we come back to the operating system itself. You have to pay to use it right? I mean buy a cdkey once and such thing? Ok, now did you also pay them to be constantly advertised with garbage in the start menu? Or did you ask them apps like tiktok be installed on fresh windows install? No, windows is trying to sell you things you dont want.

And now imagine a whole company of 200+ people with workstations, now since windows 10, is now dead, a company had to buy new computers just because "windows" now requires some additional "chip" to run.. The computer that works fine and has worked for decades, you as a CEO are forced to shill out moneys just because MS had this plan.

I dont like companies that force you to do things you are not signed up for. Also them terms of service things where they write out that they have the power to change terms of service at any time they want. And you as a consumer are left like a piece of garbage on the side of the road.

Maybe this was happened because they fired many employees, and changed them on AI? 🤔

Does M$ itself install BitLocker on laptops? That’s a question for laptop manufacturers. And it’s important to remember that, beyond a certain point, an excessive obsession with encryption makes it harder for the owners themselves to access their data than it does for hackers.

Installing two (or more) completely different operating systems on a single drive? Well, no one’s stopping you from taking the risk, but the consequences are on the experimenter alone.

Nope. And everything else listed can be sorted out without much trouble. And I don’t have any ads. For now, configuring Windows for comfortable use seems much easier than Linux.

I had the crazy idea of buying Windows officially, but I didn’t make it in time — sanctions were imposed.

We’re talking about personal use, right?

I don’t view Windows as a product of BG&K°(M$) — to me, it’s IBM’s NT with a Xerox interface. That’s why my dislike for Bill (which is no less than that of some people here — I don’t like globalists at all) doesn’t extend to what is, for now, a good OS.
