You can't understand because you have confused yourself, taken an erroneous position, and are making completely wrong conclusions and assumptions. The Dunning-Kruger effect is in full force. It is for this reason that you cannot detect the other and only find what is apparently close to you personally.

I don't use AI at all. Absolutely not at all. I watch how others use it in what situations and what benefits they get.

I don't like corporations developing AI. But I like copyright owners even less. In this corporate war, I wish victory for all participants. But to portray AI developers as the embodiment of the enemy of the human race, especially by contrasting them with copyright advocates as an angelic army, is way out of bounds.

Toxe Does anyone know if there is a way on GitHub to prevent your repositories to be used for AI training? Or something like the MIT Licence, which I usually use for all my code, but that prohibits AI training?

It's owned by microsoft. I'd guess they're exploiting it heavily. Imagine all that code sitting there doing nothing while we have an "ai" coding assistant to train and peddle. It's just too great of a temptation 🙂

I personally would never touch github with any of my code.

There is a ginormous amount of code just sitting there and they probably thought they could turn it into something useful. Well, and then AI came along and their gamble turned into a goldmine, so I suppose there is just that one guy sitting at Microsoft who goes "See? See?! Why is it evil? You're constantly repeating "it's evil, it's evil" but you never say how and why. Explain the actual reasons you think it's evil.

You do understand that you too become a copyright owner every time you create something? Many people do not get this basic concept about copyright and are thus waving away their own intellectual property rights. By claiming that existence of those rights is universally evil, you play right into the hands of "evil corpos" who are trying to muddy the waters about copyright so they can steal people's data without consequences.

Aren't the "ai developers" and "evil corpos that own copyrights" actually on the same side in this whole "ai" circus? The same people even. Think about it.

Fisking is chopping up a post into pieces when responding, to appear to be addressing its points thoroughly. Using it in back-and-forth communication makes every subsequent response more and more unfocused. It's often misused in a dishonest way so that post is chopped but the points are not actually addressed. It's just bad form when communicating one on one.

I use AI as a next-generation search engine. If I provide it with a detailed search query, it provides a detailed result. The result is not always correct, but it's usually helpful.

Just to clarify, here's a recent "query" I gave Gemini, and it replied with working code. I only needed to do a little cleanup.

In a PHP script, $backup_dir is a string containing an absolute file directory path, and $max_backups_retained is an integer.
The file names in the directory are assumed to be formed from their creation timestamps, so that sorting them lexicographically is the same as sorting them by creation date/time.
I want to prune the directory by deleting the oldest files, if necessary, so that no more than $max_backups_retained files are in the directory.

I could have written the code myself by digging into the PHP manual and searching, but this saved me time.

Well, you can push the crowd without being completely open about it. But personally, you can officially lead it.

The words “company” and “movement” in our language do not necessarily imply a leader at the helm. That is, there may be a leader, but not necessarily an obvious one... or there may be no leader at all... or it may be a group of interested parties (copyright advocates, for example).

The “compensated” funds often go not to development, but to paying an army of lawyers. The reason is that copyright law is a huge “gray area.” (This is the second answer to your question, although in terms of importance, it is rather the first.) But here we touch on a question that is worse than politics — an existential one.
