Hey everyone,
We just finished going through a bunch of maintenance changes and with that, there are a couple big announcements to make.
I am resigning
The first bit of big news is that I am resigning as owner of the Godot Community Forums.
When I started running the forums, the Godot Community Forums had just under 1,000 members and Godot 2.1 was the new big thing. Fast forward 4.5 years, and we now have over 10,000 members and Godot 4.0 is out. The forums have become an active part of the Godot community and there are thousands of conversations with developers from all over the world interacting, reading, and helping each other. The forums continues to be a place where all Godot developer can share what they are working on, discuss projects, ask questions and get help, and just have a community they can connect with.
I can confidently say we have built an amazing community together, and I am confident it will continue to grow as time goes on. I am proud of what we have built together and that has not changed.
When I started the forums it was small and easier to keep a track on, and I had more time, but now as the forums have grown and my time has become more scarce due to personal commitments, I no longer feel I am in a position where I can make the commitment to the forums that I once did. For this reason, I feel it is best to step down and allow the forums to continue to prosper under new leadership than spread myself too thin and ultimately not be the leader the forums needs. For this reason, I have resigned and pass ownership on.
I couldn’t have done the last 4.5 years without my amazing forum staff and I want to give a heartfelt thanks to each and every person who has helped over the years. It truly wouldn’t be possible without their aid and support. Every member is an amazing person who has volunteered their time to help make this community the awesome place it is, and I cannot thank them enough for their help.
I also want to thank everyone on the community for their understanding, patience, and amazing interactions that have made the last 4.5 years some of the most amazing interactions I have ever had. The community here we have is really special and I’m honored to have been such a direct part of it.
I am going to continue as an administrator on the Godot Community Forums until May 1st, 2023, to give the new leadership time to adjust as well as to just help with the transition period. After May 1st, I will still be around, but I plan to take a less active role and become more of an ordinary user and community member rather than forum staff.
Speaking of new leadership…
New leadership
The second announcement is that @cybereality is the new owner of the Godot Community Forums! @cybereality has been a member of forum staff for a long time, knows the community, and graciously agreed to take ownership of the forums now that I am stepping down.
The forums have already been fully migrated to @cybereality, in fact that was the maintenance we just performed, so there is no loss of data nor functionality loss. Everything you know and love about the forums works just like before, it is just under new leadership.
I know that the Godot community is awesome and I know that @cybereality will work to continue to make the forums a great place for all Godot developers. I am confident that @cybereality will continue to help guide the forums so that it is the best it can possibly be, both today and in the future. I ask that everyone offer him the same amazing support as you all have given me over the years.
That is the two big announcements. The TLDR is that I am resigning and @cybereality is going to be taking my place. I will continue to be around as I have been until May 1st, after which I plan to take a lesser role.
Once again, I want to thank everyone for their support over the years and offer my full support to @cybereality! I am confident in @cybereality and the future of the Godot Community Forums.
