  • Vision Therapy - Coding for Basic Retro games

Hi all,

This is a request for HELP.

I am a retired optometrist and am trying to write a series of games to help children with lazy eyes. I was well looked after by my profession. So I would like to give back to the community now that I am retired and have the time.

I tinkered with BASIC back in University and later with Delphi. The latter allowed me to write my "spaghetti code" Windows programs which managed to do what I wanted them to do. But now I need a dedicated game engine. I looked at a few but liked the idea of cross platform compatibility of Godot. Its structure has taken me time to get used to and I see its value in simplifying game design.

So I am NOT a programmer but can usually find a solution to my needs. The biggest problem is controlling the information presented to each eye. I now have a way of doing that using filtering lenses and color Modulation of sprites.

All the games will be versions of old style arcade games: Snake, Pacman, Pong, Tetris, Asteroid, Infinite runner, Kong,... These were designed for low power systems and used simple graphics in monochrome. As such they are readily adapted for my purpose. I have been going through the 2D game tutorials and am sure that some of these would convert well.

Having fun while playing a game is much greater motivation than basic eye exercises. Doing this would also help to make these services available to remote and lower socioeconomic communities.

So does anyone have completed code for these styles of games that I could tinker with to do the above. I would be very grateful for any help. I know my strengths and weaknesses and coding is not a strength.

Thanks in advance

I would love to help as much as I can, shoot me a message.

first computer I ever used was a tandy back in the early 80's maybe?? This is not the place for it, but if you have questions, I would hope, I can help.
