  • Games and/or Applications, How to promote both to the community?

Hi everyone, i am wondering how to promote and teach godot for both, games and applications ? i am looking at the promo of godot over internet and in majority, everyone speak about game creation. my personal interest is to produce real application for PC, tablet and phone, from fun app to serious ones... and i have some difficulties to see where this topic is presented.. i would like to discuss the point of presenting both activities on godot related websites, i think it is important ad as i do experience with the engine, i can say that it can be used for advanced applications (cgx, audio, office,etc...)

let me know what you are thinking of this, maybe it can be more obvious and clear for people who enter the godot world and for students who are learning how to publish OS app or tools have a great day

Hi...interesting...apps that have nothing to do with games are not maybe popular in this sites...but Godot engine is so versatile it's not surprising....make it... show it...best think you can do it....l'm artist So interested in not games /games by presented by Tales of Tales http://tale-of-tales.com ..so i'm a little on your site....good luck budy!

You can post a topic to convey progress updates and just show it off in the projects category no matter if it's a game or not. There's no rules against that.

hi... as an app programmer/GUI designer, and as i dont see so much app made with godot, i am asking if we have a special category to talk this topic and meet some other app devs. i am actually looking at developping pro apps within godot, and as i can see some good result, i am wondering who is doing the same :)

Programming category? Seems fitting enough, I suppose we could add a tag for app perhaps?

Neat, it is always cool to see game engines being used for general application work. I've done a little bit of general application work in Godot for a prototype back with Godot 2.0. It worked fairly well and I found that, other than the app did not look native, there was not too many downsides to use Godot for application development.

As for adding a special category, I'm not really sure. For just generally talking to other developers working on non-game related projects, I think that would mostly fall into the general-chat category. As @Megalomaniak mentioned, the programming category would be also be a fitting place to talk about general application development.

Non game projects/applications could be posted in the Projects category, or the Resource category depending on the nature of the project/application. We have a few non-game related projects on the forums, like Laigter and Pixelorama.

I am not necessary against adding a new category, but I'm just not sure it is really needed. The categories we have are not necessarily game creation specific, so posts about non-game related projects/applications could be posted there too. I think adding a tag or two would be the best solution if we want to add specificity for non-game related projects/applications.

As far as the app tag, I wonder if we might want to call it application instead to better differentiate it from iOS/Android apps. The only issue I can see with calling it application or app, is that technically games are applications too. Maybe we should add two tags, application/app and something like non-game?

Well, the app was an example, I'm not personally set on anything, since I'm not entirely sure we need it, we don't have a tag for game either, really. And if we were to have, should we instead have different tags for types of games, but then also for other/non-game would we have multiple also?

i completely agree with you guys :) that is true that a game is also an app {crazy}... but i only rsuggest to have something easy to search when people are dedicated to dev an app which is not a game type... for sure, the power of godot extend to app dev, office tools and pro app like painting, 3d, music and more ;)

my experience is that it was difficult to find my interest on the godot's dedicated plateforms, because of the lack of defined category... maybe something can be more evident in that sens...

So if we were to add a few additional tags, what do you(and/or others) think they should be?

I agree, I'm not sure we totally need it either and if we do, what tags we should use. I think we should, as much as possible, keep the tags more focused on broad topics, as the search functionality should (at least in theory) provide more specific searching/topic-finding capabilities.
