I would expect the pillars to be cylindrical or rectangular and thus fairly similar in dimensions along both axis(width and depth from viewpoint) with only perspective distortion affecting the visible size(or angular dimensions if you will).

That makes sense, I was drawing in the embrasures and not considering the pillars. Perspective is always hard.

But then again, making it easy to recognize the sprites is more important than making them anatomically correct, especially if it doesn't affect the gameplay very much. While anatomy is important, it's not the most important thing.

The tilted pillars do look nice to me.

Bit of art dump, this is the stuff I've been working on over the last couple of weeks.

First up is assets for a mountain trail. I think working with cliff faces is pretty challenging so I'm actually really happy with how this is turning out. <img src="https://i.imgur.com/70mc7Kz.png"></img>

Some sort of ground tile. I want a sort of badlands feel to this texture. <img src="https://i.imgur.com/vghUJlD.png"></img>

That's all for now, I do have a laptop I'm looking at buying but I'm waiting patiently for a decent sale. In the meantime work and Uni is keeping me more than busy enough to pass the time.

I actually like how using the same tile for the Top and Non-Top tiles looks like. Normally, i'd add variation to tilesets by drawing slightly differently textured versions of each tile and layering decoration. But embracing the repetition works very well in this case.

I imagine that this Background might have 2 parallax layers: The Grey part with the Wires would move slower than the Solid Brown Part. And the Solid Brown part moves at the same speed as the player.

That's a really interesting concept, I might do some playing around with that. It sounds like a really cool way to add more depth to the world. Thanks for sharing!

Just some idle animation practice for the next game.

Also it took me two years but I think I finally figured out gif transparency on Aseprite...

Still playing it safe with the more basic characters, I did try animating the sand shark but it didn't turn out so well and I'll have to try again. Slowly starting to enjoy it a bit more as I improve, it's cool to bring a character to life.

So my first attempt at a marble chocolate rabbit went okay but I thought I could improve on it a bit. <img src="https://i.imgur.com/WrUPjPQ.png"></img>

I tried experimenting with some different techniques and layering to create an interesting marble effect. After creating a sprite with regular shading I used an online image distortion program to bend some simple colored bars and then overlayed that on top of the sprite with opacity. Things have been as busy as ever for me lately but I have a short Uni break next week so I'm going to be diving back into Etheldia Pepper to finish the final update. Got the chief hut map linked up this morning so I'm ready to start coding in the battle challenge loop. Hoping to have the update ready by this time next week, so now would be a great time to let me know of any bugs or issues you've encountered with the game so they can be included.

Spent a lot of time working on the Etheldia Pepper update this week. Finished up the knight tournament, which is a bit of post game where you can fight against other knights and see how many you can defeat consecutively. There's a prize for defeating 50 in a row, the legendary sword Excalibur. I even created a special animation for it, which I think turned out okay. <img src="https://i.imgur.com/uiVh3WO.gif"></img>

In addition I created two new musical pieces, one for the chief hut and just a general interior track which was previously lacking. I also added the interior battle background I made a while back and fixed a few bugs and some spelling and grammatical errors I've noticed while playing through the game again.

Planning to finish my playthrough over the next couple of days and then if there's no major issues I'll put the update live! I really should make a new trailer that's a bit more professional and try and promote the game some more, but I'll see if I can find the time.
