Since this is currently a ghost town, I figured it was time to start the obligatory introduce yourself thread 8)

For myself...I have been toying with several game engines over the years and have finished off a couple. One web based puzzle game using Construct 2 and an Android game on the PlayStore called Cubenemy (made with the very cool but sorely neglected ZGameEditor).

Currently working to finish a long term game that I have been hacking at for the last couple of years with Gamemaker Studio called Jellyfish Supercharge. This is an underwater physics based shooter. But I really don't want to use GMS ever again after this...hoping that Godot will help me avoid having to touch Unity or GMS ever again :)

Additionally I have recently started a 3d procedural game using the wonderful Godot Engine! Although I have toyed with Godot ever since the first beta, it wasn't until the release of v2, that I decided to get serious with it.

I am extremely impressed with the potential of the node/scene system and think that it is ideal for my ambitious shooter/platform hybrid that I have envisaged. Think Binding of Isaac meets Spelunky with robots in 2.5D. Lots of old school arcade influence including Tempest and Moon Patrol. All procedural generated ...from the levels to the enemies themselves. Working title...reboo:TED . Have already made good progress with the top down shooter template in a playable state.

In my day job I am a mograph animator. For kicks I am heavily into creating music, both guitar and electronic styles as well as sketching surreal images.

I have also been lurking these forums myself for some time. I guess since people are posting, it's open now?

I am currently developing a Castlevania like game with Godotengine since last Christmas. I've also tried a few other gaming frameworks like LibGosu, but wasn't satisfied with them, either because they weren't free software or didn't do what I needed it to do. It might also be because I didn't have as much experience with it then. A few iterations of looking through other frameworks has probably helped there. I was considering posting the project here, but since there's already a link to it from the old forums, I'm wondering if I should repost it?

I've also been helping with some of the Krita builds on OSX and draw on my free time when I'm not developing games.

I came to Godot through the Blender community. Some guys (want to mention ndee here ;)) talked about it a couple of times. At this point in time I was working with the bge and was a huge fan of it. Although the bge has so many limitations (less platforms, performance only okay, slow development...). When I was working on a minecraft clone, with the bge. I was facing a lot of limitations that game engine has. As a consequence i started to use Godot. It also works open source and the development and features seemed to be much better. I really loved the active community, the possibility to see the process on github and of course the engine itself. After some weeks I already liked the engine and community so much that I wanted to create something for it. Be it a tutorial series or just being active as a community member. When I read that the old forum is going to be shut down I was thinking about creating a new one. Had no experience at this point in time so I tried a lot and finally started to post my process. Since I'm now, more or less (there is still a lot to do I think) done with the forum I'm planning to work on a small project which than should become a beginners tutorial.

Hi,

I'm into games since I was a child. Ever since, I wanted to create games. There was a time in my youth where I started some projects with friends, using BASIC and a self made sprite painter - but we never completed a game. I worked most of my time as a technical draftsman handling and administrating technical documents and rather big 3D assemblies. But thinking of creating games never left my mind.

I tried out Godot simply because of the fact that it's FOSS. I immediately felt at home and my urge to create games got a serious boost.

I'm into retro style games, especially pixel art. But I also like games with good hand drawn art, and Godot is good for both types. I like shmups, platformers, point'n'click, adventure games and anything with a motivating story line. So my two learning projects right now are a generic platformer and something I would call a "shrogue" - a rogue-lite shoot'em'up with generated terrain. As it turns out, I'm not the only one with that idea. :)

Other than that, I like to listen to electronic music and play along with my midi keyboard and some software synthesizers. I recently picked up drawing with a big old Wacom. I never drew anything in my life, but I got hooked immediately.

On to the next!

Hi, I've got an classical art-education- sculptor but I now mainly painting and I enjoy digital sculpting with Blender and Sculptris. I'm doing this as a hobby but with paintings-acrylic/oil on canvas I would like to make for living :)

I always enjoyed games and virtual worlds at all, my favorite is still Lara Croft-Tomb Raider,Silent Hill,Deus Ex and a few others,I like the point'n'click mystery adventure games,artistic games,too.

And, so I was always have my dream to make some of my 3d virtual worlds, and maybe even some games :). Incorporate my talent into things that have life, some of my fictional character and see how the moves/lives in my environment in real time is amazing...a static image/painting can not cope.I like game engines :D

I started with the BGE-Blender engine and tried the Torque 3d and then I discovered Godot...and it is magnificent,great engine.Thanks developers artistic dreams can become a reality.

Hello, I have been interested in game development for many years, tried several tools like Game Editor and Game Maker wasn't satisfied with that, learned programming everything from scratch, studied computer science and ended up becoming an embedded software developer. Since Godot is open source and cross platform, started porting it to some more obscure platforms (Open Pandora, Raspberry Pi) for fun and after using it for some Ludum Dare entries I don't think I will switch to an other engine anytime soon. The only thing that nearly got me to loosing interest in it was that the main developers abandoned of the official forum. So I'm glad someone started a new and by the looks of it much better structured and useful forum.

Ive been doing game development for about 2 years now and found godot about a year ago, and didnt understand it and left, then recently re found it while looking for open source tools, and figured i'd give it another try and i learned how easy it was and ive been in love with it ever since,

I started playing Sonic on a sega genesis and was inclined to do art while i was chilling in florida watchin cartoons, and since then ive been Making small unfinished games ,testing what i can do with it and all that and im now trying to make a full game based off of inspiration from some old arcade games i played when i went to an arcade this past summer in chicago, So wish me luck on that, i love drawing pixel art and stuff (im not toooo great yet but i try) So if yah ever need an artist for concept design/finalizing pixel art feel free to messege me on here or @duskitty on twitter ;P

Hello, new Godot user here!

I am BinaryOrange, although I have gone by names such as Yodaman Jer and CoffeeCoder on other game development forums. I've been interested in game development since I was 15 years old, and have used many different engines. Although I haven't released anything in that span of time, I have completed many things I used to think were impossible, but got to it anyway through sheer determination, and a pinch of stubbornness!

Godot looks to be the adventure I've been hoping for. An excellent scripting language, an AMAZING feature set, and a great community to boot!

Looking forward to being a part of this community for the rest of my game development life!

First of all I am very happy that there is a forum once again. Last engine I really used a lot was Construct 2 and best thing in that in my opinion was the community and the forum. Hopefully this one will become as vibrant as that is ;)

I found Godot when I was migrating to Linux and was searching engines that would run on it, mainly to replace Construct. I also had quite a lot of issues with that engine, mainly that in my opinion it is really more suited for small web based games and I had to constantly try to find some workarounds for what I was trying to achieve, even for quite basic things like using an image from a file. Also the engine is HTML5 based and doesn't have real native support for desktop, only NW.js wrapper.

Godot's node system and overall better architecture suits my thought process much better. Also I didn't have much experience about coding or scripting before, but now I have to say that it also suits my head better than C2's visual programming system, which is quite nice for some stuff but gets overly complicated for things you don't necessarily expect.

Also tried Unity and Unreal a bit, but the licensing aspect was a bit dodgy on both. Specially in Unity. On Unreal I cannot do anything on C++ and the Blueprint system seems like an incredibly messy way of doing anything.

I was looking at Unity quite a while before it's popularity explosion and just thought that well this will surely get big and I would dare to say the same for Godot G: and for open source in general.

Working on a bigger project now and will post something when I get bit more done.

first of all I don't like to introduce myself, even in german (my native language) it's kinda hard to write something about myself, writing english doesn't make it easier. :)

I'm using Godot since the 1.0 release is out. It was kinda love at first sight. I got a decent background in programming especially with python. 4 days ago I released my first game, I try to open a thread in the appropriate section in the forum soon. I also hope to get to write something about the development process the game has gone through, maybe some kind of tutorial.

I hope this forum keeps growing and I'm looking forward to be a part of a great community.

Hi I'm Elf_Ears! (the guy mentioned in the "The Forum came To Life !" announcement post lol) (I was kind of a dummy and dropped the ball on properly contacting Toger5 and the rest of the Godot team, so sorry for that) I'm a wannabe developer (gaming AND software), artist (still need [b]LOADS[/b] of knowledge and practice) and a Godot [b]fanatic[/b]! One day I hope to make commercial projects with this baby! (but there'll be free stuff too, don't worry)

I have a kinda embarrassing programming history...

I previously would have developed my projects in Game maker as there was no alternative at the time... (and the demo for undertale had just come out...) , but my naivet? and ego made me drop it when I couldn't program a game without reading any tutorials or looking anything up AT ALL (I genuinely expected that gui to bow down to my "infinite programming wisdom" and allow me to write gml with no prior knowledge LOL, I couldn't even use the graphical programming to do anything :-[)

But then came godot! (and it took like 1.5 years for any good tutorials, but THEN...)

I like how godot makes medium to hard difficulty things easier instead of the ol "basic thing are super easy, if you want anything more complicated welcome to hell" kinda deal

Either way, I love forums and this one uses SMF! (my software of choice) so it's kinda like a non stop programming party!

If anybody needs help I should be able to answer some engine related questions, so drop me a line if you need anything!

Hello folks. As you'll probably see I'm not a native english speaker and I'm not a professional programmer, but I have a lot of motivation to create a little mobile game, and Godot is like a gift from the sky. Especially for hobbiyists like me, but probably for little video games companies too. I have a lot of game design ideas, but it generally needs 3D knowledge. I'm working on my only 2D idea.

Had you tried the Godot vehicle node ? It's funny but too buggy.

Hi, I'm Daniel (or del, which is daniel without ani ;D ). I have been interested in game design since I've seen my first games, although it was more the graphic part for the most time (because I understand that better). I remember me having more fun, drawing ugly ninja turtle heads to use as mouse cursors on the amiga, than actually playing the games. ::) I've played with a lot of game engines in the last years, but never dug really deep into them. I think with Godot this will change. I'm still no good programmer and I'm having trouble understanding a lot of things. I did my first little "game" in Game Maker, a couple of years back. It was some kind of volleyball game with bears. Later I had an idea for a strange "sport" game with little elephants (one is in my avatar) which I started in Unity and later continued in Blender. Now I'll try to finally finish this game in Godot. :) (but I haven't started it...) For the last month, I was struggling with Godot's 3D to make a little sidescrolling-fly-through game, but I stopped this (for now) and made a little Breakout game for the Godot Jam. I think I'll try to finish this first, before continue with 3D and this stuff. I would call myself still a noob, with more questions than answers, and I'm so happy to have such a forum and this growing helpful community. :D

Hi I'm gokudomatic, 36, software engineer (mostly Java and Python, but previously JS and Delphi too) and I use Godot since 2014 for personal projects. Before Godot, I used LibGdx to make a scrolling shooter with a complex AI.My forte is definitely development but I learned to use Blender too and I made a few models with it.My tastes are quite anime/manga oriented, especially the old ones. I do love some western animations (like the now infamous mlp fim and gravity falls) but not as much as anime. My prefered game types, even though I program more than I play now, are FPS, T/RPG, point'n'click adventure, rogue and 2d plateform. Therefore I'm not very interested in realistic graphisme and find cartoonish look more attractive, like zelda windwaker. Kinda love pixel art too.I made a tutorial for godot about custom FPS controller based on kinematic body, and I'm using it in my current project.nice to meet ya (again, since I was in the old forum)

I'm Sean. :) I've been a Linux user since 2005, and have loved adventure games for an even longer period of time. I have wanted to get into game development since I was very young, but I also wanted to find a way to support Free Software while doing so.

My hope is to release some games as Free Software eventually, and maybe even sell a few commercial titles.

A few of my hobbies involve creating surreal art and making music. I also have some skill in creating and animating 2D sprites.

I go by Rune online as you can see with my username. Although I really love game development since I was a kid, seems like I never realized that 'love' and so I ended up floundering between life choices for way too long (not that I'm [i]that old[/i] anyway). I've been trying to get into game development but after being stuck with Unity/UE4 for so long (stuck not as in using them but more like having them on my computer and never touching them), I found Godot after somebody in the UE4 forums mentioned it. So I downloaded it and out of the many game engines I've tried so far, it seems like I might just finally found the right tool for me!

Although I want to make a game, I mostly dabble in web development which started as a hobby back in 2014. I'm not in anyway proficient, but I see how I could use some web dev alongside Godot to make an MMO or just some kind of server talking with Godot as a client. My current goal is to make a 3D RPG game similar to an MMO called 'Megaten', which had closed this year. Of course, I want the IP to be new and since my other hobby is character design and my career track is in filmmaking, I have a pretty good idea of what I want to make but lack the grind and skills to do it. But hey, better start the grind now, right?

My name is Landon and I've been a software developer for five years now. I mostly worked with C# in Unity at an indie studio; spent some time with C++ in Unreal, and am currently developing my own game engine(C++) as a fun side project.

I'm attempting to transition from a game-play programmer into an engine programmer. I look forward to diving into the Godot source code to learn more about how commercial game engines are overcoming common pitfalls and also providing some useful changes and improvements to Godot.

This looks like a great proving ground in which I can hopefully be a positive contributor to the Godot community.
