File Explorer going extremely slow

I know that this isn't very on topic, but File Explorer is going extremely slow, making it difficult to import things into Godot. It has only started happening recently, and I don't know what's going on.

ArDanZ11 The Windows file explorer? Do you have any network drives in there or hard drives that wind down and have to whirl up again? You really need to provide more information or record a video or something.

I must have been doing something wrong. When SP2 for Win 7 came out, I installed it and haven't reinstalled the system since then at all. Before that the OS also worked for a while with SP1. After that I changed disks: 2Tb HDD ➡️ 4Tb HDD ➡️ 960Gb SSD. I cloned the system disk, not reinstalled the system. And, for some reason, everything worked. Only last year I changed my WS to a new one and had to install Win 11. And people have the nerve to wonder why Win 7 is still in use.

DaveTheCoder I think that this is a CPU limiter problem, I told it not to remove anything like that, but it removed the background process for my Opera Browser, and even though I told it not to, File explorer. I should not have used it.

Funny thing is, it is not third party. It is developed by HP, specifically to MAKE MY COMPUTER WORK BETTER though it does not. I think I will try again.

Tomcat for me it was win 98/xp that was most reformated for me. Others i dont remember, usually new machine new windows and no cloning

Well, actually, they are two very different operating systems.

XP is NT (later W7) — a development of IBM, which M$ still can't break, though it tries very hard.

xyz im kinda stinged by amd on linux... no hdmi2.1 support.. and i bought new oled TV for the new all linux machine... all amd hardware.. watercooled.. but other than that all my needs were met when i made the switch (not associated with nintendo)..

no bf6 for me tho.. unless i want to deal with headaches..

As practice shows, the registry is not a death sentence. My Win 7 has been running for more than 8 years without reinstallation. At the same time, the system was transferred from disk to disk, and programs were constantly being installed and uninstalled—I tested new programs and updated the ones I work with. It's probably still in working order. I just need to reassemble this computer in a new case, since I assembled the new WS in its case.

A friend of mine who owns a small company has had a Windows server running for 10 years. The server stopped working when the company was sold.

It was precisely my lack of masochistic tendencies that made me give up on Linux.

kuligs2 I don't really care what it runs on as long as the thing is capable of computing stuff in a satisfactory way. Although, I do prefer having a dual boot (windows/linux) on my personal machines.

xyz Personally I have been happily using Linux VMs (VMware) and WSL2 for years now and don't want to bother anymore with dual boot if Windows is involved. I don't run anything graphics intensive on Linux, though.

I mean, sure, I would quite like to run Linux natively on my machine but eh, it's too much of a hassle and not really worth it. Maybe some day, should I decide to "return" to Linux all the way. But to be honest, I am actually quite content with Windows 11 and my current setup and if I need Linux I can just fire up a VM and either let it run in the background and hop on via SSH, which is the case most of the time, or go fullscreen.

Toxe I made the switch to linux (arch btw) and its been painless for the most part.. sure you get to learn workarounds but on windows you do the same with debloating and patching registry to not update automatically or ask for password changes when you dont want to change it etc etc.. I just dont want windows to send and do heartbeats to shady services that i dont know about unless i use a pihole type service where i can monitor whats going on on my local network. Also now the AI screenshotting thing - that was the last straw for me to make the switch.. Can you really trust that you have disabled it?

As for server related, been running my server on proxmox for 2 years, stable as a goat.

As a work pc, loonix is very sufficient if you dont need to use propreitary apps like adobe, autodesk, etc etc.. For gaming, well for my light gaming its been very good, only one game i wanted to enjoy i cant - factorio where i get kernel panicks and my screen freezes up and locks up because of DRM bug thats been there for years and nobody on the FOSS is bothered to fix.. MAybe if i was on nvidia card i wouldnt have to deal with this garbage + the lack of hdmi 2.1 support on amd cards - cant use your OLED TV 4k 120hz on full RGB color space, limited to YCBCR garbage.

Oh wait, problem solved. Eventually it just started going faster again. Not sure what the problem was, it may bogged down by temp files, if that is the case, two restarts and an app reload worked just fine. Also, I ran my computer out of battery in an instant and reset everything that I hadn't already saved (don't ask questions, my computer is broken, every time I unplug it it shuts down totally and locks up PIN for two hours).
