Can you in-game search computer files?

So, I am working on a little project for kicks and giggles.

I want to be able to choose photos from my computer (or possibly my phone) in-app to use within the application. I am unsure if this is possible, and I am not sure if it is where to start investigating.

I tried doing some searching, but most of the things I found concerned at runtime loading up files from your computer. I want to be able to dynamically search and then import files from computer.

xRegnarokx Don't mess with any user's files. Even if it's a benign joke, it's in poor taste.

GDScript has functions for reading and writing directories and files.

But you're limited by the platform's permission system. On a desktop or laptop, you can access any files that the current user can access.

On a phone, it's more complicated. I'm familiar with Android, but I don't fully understand its permissions. An Android app has full access to files within its private storage, limited access to some other directories, and no access to other apps' private storage.

DaveTheCoder Yeah, I have yet to work with mobile aspects. I figured I'd figure it out on computers and if I get it functioning how I want it on computer I'd maybe consider working with it for phones.

xyz No I don't want to "mess" with users files. I want to make it so users can import pictures from their computer into game.

I want a way a user can search their computer/phones photo file and upload photos (Potentially audio and video as well).

I know for a computer system I could create a user file that that could drag and drop stuff into before launching the game, but I was hoping to make it easier by having it an internal function.

There are a lot of applications that allow uploading images to the application.

Edit: I realized my comment about kicks and giggles makes it sound like it is for a joke, that was to just say I don't plan on really polishing it up and having a nice app, but just a barebones skeleton project to work with areas of the code base I'm not familiar with.i
