I have windows 10 and a computer that doesn't pass for windows 11, just wondering if there are linux users here and if they are having any problems especially using and running web games. I'll probably wait a while yet, but windows 10 is set to expire. I have an Intel i3 with an nvidia 750. You know what the big deal is, is it's so hard to get rid of anything anymore, especially an appliance. They aren't that expensive. I ran linux a long time ago, but wanted some engine, or art program that didn't run on it, but now it's pretty much godot/blender.
Linux and godot/blender
fire7side What do you mean “set to expire”?
- Win continues to work, even after official support has ended. (I only stopped using Win 7 at the beginning of this year when I bought a new computer.)
- There are options for installing Win11 on officially unsupported computers.
After researching the issue, I found the problems with switching to Linux to be too great. Maybe I'll try it sometime, but I'm not enthusiastic about it yet.

I'm strictly a Linux user (currently Ubuntu 24.04).
I originally tried Linux on computers that were sold with Windows. It worked, but there were always a couple of minor problems that I wasn't able to solve. (That's not to say they were unsolvable.)
My last two computers were bought from System76, which specializes in Linux computers. I haven't had any problems with those.
I haven't any problems with Godot. I've had a problem with newer versions of Blender hanging. It's possible that's related to my using an integrated GPU, and not configuring that properly in Blender.
I've published a few small web games on itch.io, nothing serious. The only problem I've had is audio sometimes acting flaky in 4.x. But that's unrelated to my using Linux.
DaveTheCoder Thanks for the information. If I get a new computer, it will probably be windows. This computer is pretty slow because it doesn't have a solid state drive. It doesn't bother me that much. I don't really care about 4k, but some people want to use it so you have to sort of be able to test it. It's really time for it to go I guess. This is by far the longest I've had a computer. I can't even remember when I bought it. Still runs pretty good and I play some older games on it.
Solid state drives are more expensive, but they are extremely fast. I'm spoiled by them, and would hate to return to mechanical drives.

i've been using krita/blender/gimp/godot on arch linux since 2019, without any deal breaking problems.
it might be different in your case with your Nvidia gpu. the process of getting a linux distro to work on any machine can range from zero effort to weeks of troubleshooting based on hardware, linux distro, your use case, alignment of the stars, and whether mercury is in retrograde.
and dont worry if you don't have a solid state drive, its been 5 years and i've yet to give up hard drive disks. in fact, if you get real good at the linux thing and figure out how to play with the ext4 file system and partitioning, you might find you don't need one.

fire7side because it doesn't have a solid state drive.
What hinders you from installing an SSD?
This is by far the longest I've had a computer.
My comp worked for 14 years before I bought a new one earlier this year. Naturally, I've been upgrading it all this time. When I built it (in our country it is customary to build a computer yourself), SSD was unheard of. As soon as 1Tb SSD appeared I bought it and installed it (960Gb). And for 10 years this disk worked for me without any problems (it is still in working condition).
packrat alignment of the stars, and whether mercury is in retrograde.
I have a bad relationship with astrology. I guess that's why I can't use Linux.
Tomcat I don't feel like going through the trouble of upgrading so many components. I'd rather just buy another one. I saw a "gaming" desktop on Amazon for $650. I can use my monitor for now. I'm sure I can't play the latest games at the highest setting, but I don't play very many games and the ones I do play have low requirements. I think it only has a 500 mb ssd, but that would be fine.
fire7side 500 mb ssd
Do you mean 500 GB?
fire7side unless you dont know what you want from a computer, then sure, you will pay a convenience tax on pre built ones.
But you better start learning how to build a computer yourself, and then you could make a better purchase.
As for linux issue, with an old components that you have, there should be no problems there, with newer components you might run into issues. (ddrivers for nvidia)
Im using win11 because linux is still not ready for me. If you doing strictly gaming then using AMD GPU on linux is far more less headaches than nvidia. I use my rig for gaming and some other compute work, some AI stuff, with that, nvidia is king. Also i have multi monitor multi resolution multi refreshrate setup, here is where linux failed me.. Turns out you cant do theese things without headaches.. it wasnt convenient enough for me.
But my next pc, whereever i get a chance to upgrade, is gon be linux, atleas i will try, again..
If you have single monitor setup, then there shoiuld be no problems with using any modern linux distro.
The only few problems i ever had (PopOS) with bluetooth speaker, it worked for 3 months then one day it just could not connect/pair with my speaker, took me hour to reboot, update, reboot, try try try.. untill it finally did it.. idk what happened, linux does not do automatic updates unless you set it up to do it.. i didnt, nothing was installed, it just broke one day.. But since that day, that PC is working... It has AMD 7xxx CPU and intel arc GPU..
packrat With arch, and blender, i had problem on my laptop, when im on wayland the touch controls (touchscreen) is not recognized by blender (for sculpting with pen), and it only works on x11.. still usable.
DaveTheCoder Yeah, I always do that. I had a 64k color computer to start out with.

I remember when we were running DOS 3.3 on the computers at work, and upgrading from a 5MB to a 20MB hard drive was a big deal. (We'll never use up all that space.)

If yall missed it:

for me personally:
Features planned for future release
These are features that are in progress or that we plan to implement in the future as the ecosystem evolves to support them.
- Multi-monitor VRR on Wayland will be in an upcoming release.
They dont say when will they release the upgrade
