Skillcap is a fully remote indie game development studio currently working on a roguelite action RPG game with online multiplayer gameplay called The Beacon (thebeacon.gg).

Position Overview
We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Godot Developer to join our dynamic engineering team. In this role, you will have direct communication with our CTO/Game Director on a daily basis, and will work closely with artists, musicians, sound designers, and fellow engineers. Your primary responsibilities will include designing, developing, and optimizing various systems within our games.
This is a high-impact position where your contributions will significantly influence the success of our studio.
Key Responsibilities
- Game Development: Architect and implement innovative solutions for The Beacon and future game projects, ensuring they meet high quality and performance standards.
- Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers, fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment within the team.
- Problem Solving: Develop and implement solutions to complex problems, understanding the technical and business trade-offs involved in each decision.
- Optimization: Identify, diagnose, and resolve performance bottlenecks to ensure smooth and efficient gameplay.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams including artists, musicians, sound designers, and other engineers to integrate various elements seamlessly into the game.
- Code Review: Conduct thorough code reviews to maintain code quality, consistency, and best practices across the development team.
- Innovation: Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies, and proactively suggest new tools and methodologies to improve our development processes.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in software development, including at least 2 years in game development.
- Godot Expertise: Extensive experience and strong fundamentals in Godot 4.x.
- Technical Skills:
- Deep understanding of game development, systems design, and software architecture.
- Being obsessive about writing maintainable and scalable code.
- Bonus Skills:
- Proficiency in C++ and GDExtension.
- Experience with shaders.
- Knowledge of web development (front-end or full-stack).
- Video Game Networking
- Soft Skills:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills (native-level English is not required).
- High attention to detail and consistency in work.
- Previous experience in remote teams is ideal.
- Ability to adapt to dynamic environments, changing requirements, and unexpected events during development.
- Leadership Skills: Proven experience in managing or mentoring teams, or a strong desire to take on such responsibilities.
- Education: We prioritize experience and talent over formal education; your degree is less important than your skills and achievements.
