I'm a year and a half into development of my next big project, and I LOVE GODOT!!
I came from 8 years of Unity and its so much better. Super happy to be a part of the shift to open source gamedev.
But anyways, about my game

Ecto is a highly-randomized nature world, featuring smooth, addictive movement. Jump around on colorful, nature-inspired floating islands with your friends or solo. Pick flowers, craft stick guns, hang out with frogs and fight robots in the underworld.

Notable Features:

  • Online Co-op through Steam
  • Randomly generated levels
  • Fun movement

The prototype is free to play and multiplayer!
I hope everyone's having a positive and productive day much love!

kuligs2 🙂 Yes! I record a lot of stuff on my phone and edit them in audacity + fl studio

gocat Thank you!! I'm trying to capture the feeling of being in the forest in spring

Nodragem Right now, I'm pretty much done with the core gameplay, from here on out I can easily keep adding more content on top of it. Its all randomly generated, so say I create a new item/island/enemy or something, I can just add that into the level generator and let it do its thing

Even though this game is releasing as a free prototype, I'm a little worried that I'm going to get complaints about lack of content. My reasoning for releasing it now is because I want to lock in the core foundation of the gameplay before I start working on adding more content. I have links to feedback and bug report forms to gather feedback, so I expect some criticism.

Nice graphics, any connection to Ghosts or Ghostbusters? Yeah, daft question, I just wondered with the Ecto title?

Did you use godotsteam or native godot to create the steam networking thing?

Im trying to understand the networking, if you could point to some resources, it would great.

GodotBeginnerRich Thanks! and nah, this game is a spiritual successor to my previous game called ENDO. Endo = inside and Ecto = outside. Ecto is inspired by going outside and enjoying nature

I used the Facepunch Steamworks API. Its for C#

I kinda ended up writing most of the netcode myself because when I started the project, Godot 4 multiplayer was pretty early in development (Godot 4 wasnt even released yet) and a big too buggy and unstable. I bet there's a better way to do it nowadays

Working on a big update which will make this game feel more complete. A level progression loop, Win/Lose conditions and a final boss!

Hope everyone is having a positive and productive day for real

Nice! I need to try this out!

And thank you! Hope you are having a great day as well!

I tried it! Cool game! I like how you go between the two places. But I was really confused. Just walked around picking up flowers, not knowing what to do with them 😛. Perhaps the game could benefit from some instructions.
