Hello everyone, and thank you for taking the time to view this post.

As a new member of this forum, I must first introduce myself. My name is Luke, and I would love to share with you all a piece of software I have been working on these past few months that may assist you on your game development journey.

Say hello to StoryDev Character Generator, which you can use to generate 2D Character spritesheets from highly detailed graphics that you can use with your game, royalty free and no additional licensing restrictions.

FEATURES

  • Choose between male, female and child options.
  • Fully customise the body and add clothing parts, including for the head, chest, leggings and feet.
  • Customise the colours of multiple layers in assets that support it.
  • Add colours and manage colour palettes for every item type.
  • Create and manage projects and a multitude of characters for your game.
  • Export 48x48 pixel character sprites to your game.

You can try this for free before you commit, but there is no export functionality. Available for Windows, Linux and MacOS.

You can find documentation and an Asset Reference on our official website.

SCREENSHOTS

Patch 1.1 is in the pipeline and I am starting to write articles on the progress of this over on our itch.io page.

Patch 1.1 is going to include a huge number of features already explained in our devlog, but as an overview:

  • Colour Palettes - More colour palette options to determine the scope (global, project or default colours)
  • Tag Management - Character organisation in the form of tags that can be created, modified and managed in a single interface.
  • Character Management - Improvements on the character management UI, incorporating tags and a virtual folder system.
  • Randomisation - A complete set of randomisation options, including locking in-place current asset choices, using select colour palette scopes for the random colour selection and randomise name generation for quick character creation.
  • Interface Improvements - Just general interface improvements and moving some settings from the settings view into the main interface, notably for the animations.
  • Export Improvements - Add the ability to export tags with characters, follow the virtual folders for creating exported character assets and the option to include additional frames if available.

Our devlog starts here, and I have already posted the following articles demonstrating the progress towards patch release:

I will keep this thread updated with newer articles as they become available.

Patch 1.1 is expected to release January 13th 2024.
