I personally most often use Dark modes in software. But for some reason, on this forum, I mostly use Light mode (or Day mode as it's called here). I'm curious. What mode do you use mostly on this forum?

If I can be honest, the night mode on this site is not good as should be.
All elements such as tags, avatars, buttons and the logo itself, during night mode, are like a beacon in the night.
I would vote for night mode if I could, but not like this, all elements should be dimmed.
So light mode sadly.

fatalox I do agree with you. It's not perfect. It's probably the reason why I gravitate towards the light version. A new, unique theme is planned to happen at some point (I can't say when, though, as there are other things on the to-do list before work on that can start). But a better balance on the current "night" mode can be better.

If anyone else has feedback, feel free to share. It's helpful to know what you think. ☀ 🌒

I use Pale Moon and the dark theme looks very good. I also view the forum on an electronic color book and there the dark theme also looks quite normal. The only thing that doesn't work is the pop-up messages, but that doesn't depend on the theme.

Dark, but generally I'd say depends on the lighting environment you browse in. An office environment with even daylight lighting then bright mode is probably best for your eyes. A dark room like for film development or graphics work then dark mode is better.

Contrast is good. Your monitors brightness might be too high though.

This is my view of the forum, and pretty much every other web site. As far as I'm concerned, web designers can keep their artistic opinions to themselves. I want text I can read and no distractions. uBlock is great for that.

For any web page or app which is mostly text, I always lean toward light mode. Back when I studied human factors (decades ago!), I was taught that dark text on a light background is easier on the eyes than light text on a dark background. This is b/c for any light/dark boundary, the light side will bleed a little into the dark. So light text on a dark background will look fuzzier and slightly more out-of-focus vs dark text on a light background.

Dark mode is better for photos, rendering, design, etc. b/c a light background will make your eyes less senstitive to subtle color differences.

Tomcat Ah yeah.. I've put it on the to-do list to make sure to look in to it.

You make some good points! For me, staring a lot on the screen, darker themes tend to be a bit nicer on the eyes.

duane This is my view of the forum,

Interesting. So your browser addon modifies the theme? Kinda like how clean it looks 😃
