  • A Warm Welcome Back to the Godot Forums, Under New Stewardship!

Hello everyone,
With immense joy and anticipation, Iโ€™m thrilled to announce the return of the beloved Godot Forums!
Along with its revival comes an exciting change in leadership. Starting today, I, along with my company, have the honor of guiding and nurturing this vibrant community. I am fully committed to delivering the resources needed to help this community thrive and grow.

My vision is to cultivate the ultimate hub for all our passionate Godot developers and enthusiasts out there. A space where positivity, collaboration, inspiration, and wisdom flow freely, helping us all to grow and learn together. I envision it as an ideal spot for sharing innovative projects, lending a helping hand to one another, fostering new friendships, and continually learning.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with me, allow me to introduce myself briefly. I'm Mike Lundahl, an entrepreneur and developer/architect whose journey started in the gaming industry as a professional artist over two decades ago. While I found my footing in games, I've also dabbled in VFX for TV commercials. Over the years, I've gradually transitioned into engineering and have been fortunate to contribute to various startups and large enterprises alike. I've played my part in creating SaaS services, apps, plugins for creative tools, and more, holding roles not only as a professional artist but also as a studio lead, CTO, and founder of my own company.

Three years back, I embarked on a personal game project, which later turned into a collaboration with a friend. I chose Godot as my engine of choice and joined this forum in 2021. The journey so far has been wonderful, a delightful blend of mastering the engine and getting acquainted with this fantastic community.

What lies ahead? Firstly, we're keen to open the forum gates once again for all of you to explore and connect. Over the upcoming weeks, I'll be delving into the technical foundations of the forum while concurrently developing a roadmap for our community's future. While it's a bit premature to share any grand plans, we ask for your understanding and patience during these initial settling-in weeks.

An important point to note is our migration to a new hosting account, which involved setting up everything anew and importing all data. Though we hope for a seamless transition, don't be too surprised if you encounter a few hiccups here and there initially. Rest assured, we will be continually refining and improving the forum over time.

So, here's to a fresh start! Let's embark on this exciting journey together!

    Congrats for the revival!

Also, so this forums will be affiliated to your company? Since basically you are like the sponsor for the hosting infrastructure of the forums.

      That's good to see! ๐Ÿ˜น

Does this mean a move towards commercialization in any form?

        Cat
Thanks! Yes, that's a good way to see it. It will mostly stay hidden in the background, and this will most likely be one of the few only times it's mentioned.

        Tomcat
The forum will always stay free for people to use ( if that's a concern ). But growing and running a community at scale takes resources. ๐Ÿ™‚

          It's a, uhโ€ฆ a responsible approach.

cybereality I also want to thank you for helping me out with the migration! It's been a lot to take in and I appreciate you being there to guide me through some of the things. ๐Ÿ’—

Thanks for reviving the forums, and it's good to see alot of cats active in godot community lately. -.-

            Cool!! Thanks for doing this!

If at all possible, can we think about having a page with a categorized list of forums, like a typical phpBB does it? One thing I don't like about this forum is it behaves like a giant twitter feed with everything disappearing at the bottom unless stickied.

              Thanks for helping the community!

Thanks for bringing it back. The forums went down like, the exact second I started working on a game again and went to look up tutorials. Nice to have it back honestly.

davek I think that would require whole different CMS altogether, like this for example https://godot.community/

It's not something Flarum can do out of the box

Hey, can you delete the thread that started this whole mess?

The last thing I want is for newcomers to see that and not use the engine forever.
