Problem in Godot 4 with the 3D:

Looks like a gpu driver related problem. Try to switch to different renderer in the upper left corner where it says "Compatibility". Alternatively try to restart your os and make a fresh project. If it persists, it should probably be reported to the dev team.

Just to make sure all bases are covered, make sure you changed the terminal working directory to the folder the godot executable is in first.

I suppose that to make 3d games I would have to use version 3.5.1

BibiProgrammer I'd be extremely off topic if we now go into how to run stuff from the shell.

In short, by the looks of it, Godot 4 cannot work properly on your system because your video card drivers are not updated or the card itself doesn't have required hardware features. Yeah, maybe best to go back to version 3.5 if it worked ok.

Maybe better to stick with 3.5 for everything because this could cause problems with 2D too.

I've been testing it with 2D for a while and there hasn't been a single problem.

Makes me wonder if he shouldn't post a fresh thread detailing what his specs are if he's having that many issues running a Godot 3D project because I've never encountered that before.

Lethn It's linux so anything is possible 🙂. But yeah it'd be interesting to know at least the GPU model.

xyz Ugh Linux, in that case I'm not surprised he's got issues with 3D, as much as I love the concept it is just so horrible to set anything up on any of the distros beyond email and web browsing.

This is a bit of a long thread but a quick search via browser find function didn't bring it up so I guess it's worth mentioning...There should be a property on the camera node(in the inspector with camera selected) to make it active or current. Without that enabled the camera isn't used.

Megalomaniak It's most likely some kind of Vulkan driver issue on linux. The engine complains about scene shader linking failure, and according to provided screenshots the default viewport grid and the mesh preview in the inspector are not rendered out ...

Has the OP listed their GPU specs? Most likely it's an old video card that doesn't support Vulkan and not a bug.

cybereality Yep, that was my guess too. They didn't list their hardware specs though, except that it was a linux machine.

The issue is that OP is using 3D nodes, but they want to create a 2D project. You need to use CharacterBody2D instead of CharacterBody3D, and Camera2D instead of Camera3D.
