This year I really put my head down and moved on from RPG Maker and visual scripting. I attribute a lot of my coding growth to Heartbeast and am thrilled to say that in the same year I learned to actually code, I released a game into Early Access (Which has actually been getting some pretty good reviews from people who've played it!)

This is my first project that has made it out of the ever growing uncompleted projects folder.

It's gone through tons of iteration and even for a seemingly simple title... MAN is it a lot of work. I do not know how solo devs can muster up the motivation, skill and focused effort to make things bigger than this.

To be frank, while making a little extra pocket change is nice. Actually having a thing out there that wasn't out there before because of me is a really nice feeling.. and each of the reviews I've gotten, even if they didn't buy the game and might be swayed because they got a free key, means SO much to me.

Someone left a novel of a comment on a post I made on Steam and I literally was in tears reading it.

You were very sensible picking something like this for your first game, this is the kind of scale all beginner devs should be thinking at and it will probably be something of a morale booster getting a game out fairly quickly and on the cheap while you work on something bigger maybe. It could also depending on how successful you get earn you some cash for doing more complex projects and hiring outside help so think on that too.

I know what you mean when it comes to keeping motivation, my best advice is always work on a genre or idea you absolutely obsess over, otherwise as you hit the mid-point it will be pretty difficult to continue. I thought I was being sensible when I picked a platformer for my game, little did I know how ridiculous it might get putting in 20 levels and designing them all.

      cybereality Thanks 🙂

Lethn That was my hope as well. I valued finishing a project a lot more than trying to make my dream game. Because I've seen so many of my friends with dream games on the backburner for years.

I want this <3 Love this kind of genre. I am liking this cute look even the GUI is cute. you pull off the brown nicely.

This is so cool. Do you plan on making tutorial or devlog ? :3

The game is nice, the colors are very harmonious. It's hard to assume that this is the first game. 👍

ami7mina UI is the devil so I'm glad you don't hate it. Even in these screenshots it shows a bit of the iteration over time.. I really am impressed with UI and UX designers in general after this.

ueih Probably not a tutorial as honestly I have no real business giving specific advice. This whole project is probably duct taped together in the eyes of someone who knows what they are doing - and I don't want to enforce or create bad habits. I am planning to do a bit of a devlog / update based on either just larger updates or interesting things that come up. Currently I'm actually starting to read a lot of devlogs here and on TIG so that I can see how to even do it correctly. I'm kind of leaning towards a monthly recap style - but we shall see!

Tomcat First game that is public. I do have quite a few tutorial and unfinished projects lying around. Believe me, if you saw the code you would not be so fooled.. especially the Frankenstein save system.

disemq I've heard it's next to impossible (or incredibly expensive) to be able to move a game from Godot to the Switch. But, I also agree... it feels nice on Steam Deck though!
