  • Action turn based games. Like or Dislike?

I was working on my small MMO and turned it into an action turned based game. But I am wondering if an action turn based game is something people would want to play?

I think it would be fun to play. it would be both PVP and PVE. It would be able to run on old hardware including 56k modems. Gles 2.0

I am worried no body would want to play it after spending a few months producing it.

I've played some small turn based games before and liked them. I don't know that I've played a turn based MMO before though. I think its a cool idea at least, though personally I've been leaning away from MMOs when looking for games to play recently, but thats more of because of the time sink.

I was designing to keep each mission to a low time requirement. About no more than 15minutes a game. After 10 or 15mintues game ends.

You should play the new Shadowrun. The first one was Shadowrun Returns, but they released a remastered trilogy recently. I think that was the best mix of action and turn based, but not boring. I guess it's technically a turn based strategy game, but it's also an RPG. You should check it out.

As an MMO? No, as a singleplayer game maybe with some multiplayer? If the story is good and the proper RPG elements are there, that's a big thing for me when looking at turn based games these days and not even stuff that big game devs have put up impressed me all that much.

I think what a lot of game devs miss when it comes to making any kind of game is good scenario writing and level design. It's become something of a lost art as they rely far too much on procedurally generating or randomising their content and think that's all they need to do.

I highly recommend going back to old school games like Half Life and maybe even System Shock and so on to understand what I'm on about. Fallout New Vegas is a game that I still play to this day at times but that's on the more extreme end of very carefully designed game scenarios. Since you were looking at turn based Fallout 1 and 2 would be something to check out too, perhaps Baldur's Gate 2? Depends on what you're into.

Chess is pretty popular. Then there's Hearthstone and MTG and several other card games, very popular. Most tactics games are turn based. I don't really see why people wouldn't play turn based games. Fact is, lots of people do play them... and there are new ones currently being developed and being released all the time.

Slay the Spire was one of the best games ever and sold a ton of units.

i don' like turn based games, but thats just a personal preference

This game System Crash was amazing. The graphics don't look good, but the gameplay was intense. I think I dropped like 60 hours on this game, there was a lot to do.

I love turn based games, look at the sales figures for the xcom games and all the fantasy turn based games like Baldurs Gate or Gloomhaven. There's definitely a market out there!
