I wanted to start a topic dedicated to the built-in "AssetLib" tool available in Godot, as well as any Godot asset libraries or marketplaces. https://godotengine.org/asset-library/asset https://godotassetstore.org/ https://godotmarketplace.com/ https://godotassetlibrary.com/ (Caution: Broken? Does not load for me.)

I think the "AssetLib" tab takes a pretty prominent spot in the editor, next to 2D, 3D, and Script. I imagine that's more to do with the hope of what it could be, rather than because of what it currently offers. I'm a recent arrival to game dev, and have not used the Godot asset library much - maybe 5 times in the past 2 years. I think this clip of a video does well on covering some of the issues with it:

https://godotmarketplace.com/ looks like it offers a lot more, but all front-page promoted assets appear to be engine agnostic anyway. It does not appear to have an API to link with the "AssetLib" tab in Godot, either, which seems like a missed opportunity for both parties.

What would other people like to see out of the "AssetLib" tool? Or the https://godotengine.org/asset-library/asset website, while that's the default source linked?

If Godot ever gets that money from the marketplace (and I don't know if it did), I would just like to see a bunch of new stuff in the store- both 2D and 3D.

Asset lib, I just want to see how to seamlessly rotate the camera with the mouse without getting stuck on the edges.

I'm also curious if the people who have maintained any of the asset libraries would share their experience and pain points they've had.

I explored briefly the repo at https://github.com/godotengine/godot-asset-library. I have >10 years in web development, and would like to help, but also never want to touch PHP again. Seeing that backend sapped a lot of the motivation I had to contribute.

I'm hoping the community can share their voice on what they want from the Asset Library, that we can distill a clear vision, and take the next steps deliberately.

Don't get me wrong, that would be awesome. I'm still on the lookout for 2D assets, the same ones as in the first post, and more if possible.

I still believe, however, that the Marketplace needs something more to work, I just don't know what.

@Calinou @Akien @aaronfranke , it looked like you all had contributed to the asset library website/repo before. Is there a task manager (ex. Trello board) for it? If I wanted to get steadily caught up on the discussion around it, is that happening on the forums or in a discord somewhere?
