Making a fairly “small” game the player is only what 8x8 pixels, I was looking for tips on how to make bullets hitting feel impactful in such a small game? My bullets are incredibly small so normal options like using particle bursts don’t work as well (please prove me wrong!) I’m a firm believer in the statement “when something leaves or enters your scene make it known” so!

Note the game is very fast paced, with cube and rectangle graphics (at least atm)

I would recommend colour flashes since your bullets are so small, so if an enemy or even a player gets hit they flash red, you should also make good use of punchy sound effects which can also help.
