  • Using 3D software render to create 2D tileable textures

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for to create my own sprite map pack but i don't understand how i can make a 2D tileable texture from a 3D model with procedural textures.

For exemple, i need to change this model to a 2D texture. Someone can explain me how i supposed to do that or a tutorial where it speaks about that ?

I use Blender as 3D software. This is for a 2D game.

You just render the image as a png at the size you want. The settings are on the right hand side with the icon that looks like a printer. Make sure it's rgba if you want transparency and set the backdrop to transparent.

Hmm, i think i have choice de bad words, i retry:

So, i have create a 3D model with procedural textures. After take a orthographic render, i see the texture isn't seamless, look below:

I'm looking for a explanation about this: how i'm supposed to make a seamless texture if the output doesn't allow it ?

If you get a direct overhead, I would think it would be. Maybe try the other one, forgot what it is rather than orthographic. You might have to ask the blender community how they do it. There's a program called Material Maker that does that, if I understand it right. https://materialmaker.org/

Interresting this addon, thank you.

For my problem, i've got found an explanation: what i'm looking for is simply "pixel art" method. I just need to draw in a 2d software dedicated to or Gimp, for example.

Gimp has a filter for mapping seamless textures, but don't expect great results. In my experience, nothing beats human artistry for making simple textures look seamless (yet).

If you are painting your own, I like Krita. You go into the view tab and click on wrap around mode. Then you can actually see the texture being tiled as you paint.
