I've been having a look at Krita, Aseprite etc. and was wondering what 2D artists (though 3D artists very welcome to reply too) use to draw in these apps: Just a mouse, or do you have a pen and tablet?
Pen and tablet, or mouse? What do you use?
For 2D you basically need a tablet. I'm not that great at 2D art, but I am trying to learn. This is the one I use. https://www.amazon.com/Inspiroy-Wireless-Graphic-Pressure-Sensitivity/dp/B071CFC3RG/
I use a little pentablet about 6x4 I think. Works perfectly well for me and doesn't take up much room on my desk. They also do come in handy if you do any texture painting in 3d. I don't use it that much because I mostly work in 3d.
i move around on what i use for blender mostly mouse in zbrush and photoshop or affinity designer i use my https://www.komplett.se/product/1134617/datorutrustning/kringutrustning/ritbord/ritbord/wacom-cintiq-22?gclid=CjwKCAiA4KaRBhBdEiwAZi1zzoUKS-bSJZaLbnwi0RqUQchHiscd8_wmlH6zdhoB2TexhgOBTAzgdhoCRDoQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Thanks for this: I have an iPad with a pen, but I use a Windows system and going between apps can be a bit tedious. Also, it doesn't look like Krita and Aseprite are available on the Apple store.
I've tried a few ones, I'm pretty sure the link I gave you is the best. It is very large (it helps a lot, especially in the beginning) and it's wireless, works with all operating systems and should work with all the major programs. They have a newer model, but that one is on sale and is fine.

I saw the Wacom Cintiq 22 recently and fell in love with it. Then I saw the price tag and fell out of love with it! Lol, if I was doing art professionally and wasn't a complete beginner at creating games I would go for it, but for now I shall try to ignore its siren song. I had a Wacom Intuos 2 more than a decade ago, but I don't think the drivers for it are updated any longer and so it's really clunky to use. And having a screen does look like it would be much easier to work with.
Honestly, the ones with screens are not needed. They are fun, and may be good if you are a traditional artist. But I find them actually harder to work with, because your hand obscures the screen. If you are more used to using a computer or mouse, the regular tablets are actually easier. Though for a professional artist, I can see why they would use the screen, it is just not necessary when starting out.
Yes u dont need any advanced stuff for art on the PC i just got it sina i like usaly to draw on papper

That's a really good price for a wireless pad. They are a lot better. I have a big long usb cord on mine. Really annoying. The only thing worse is a cord that is just barely long enough. If it's wireless like that, it would at least be easy to put on a shelf or something so it's out of the way.
Yeah, the wireless makes a big difference. I also like to use it on my lap, as I find that easier and more natural than using it in a mouse placement. Like if you were to draw with a pen in a book, you wouldn't do it on a table with one hand off to the side. So it works better.
I use a wacom cintiq 12wx and a mouse and keyboard. Would love to own a 3dconnexion spacemouse as well, but not currently in a position to afford extra toys like that.
I have an old Space Navigator in the closet. I use the wireless one now, the old one is wired but it should still work. Send me a PM if you are interested, no cost.
I've been using an xp-pen deco V2 I need it for krita drawing and also blender sculpting. can't draw with a mouse or keyboard, and can't sculpt this way either. It's possible to do those with mouse and keyboard. Even a small cheaper tablet would be better than mouse.
The opportunity's come up to get a second-hand Wacom Intuos Small with Bluetooth for around $55 USD. Do you think the size would be large enough for game art, or would you recommend the medium size, minimum?
Active area: Small: 152.0 x 95.0 mm (6.0 x 3.7 in) Medium: 216.0 x 135.0 mm (8.5 x 5.3 in)
Thanks in advance.
I do recommend the medium size, giving yourself more freedom. I think it's easier to have poor line quality on smaller sized tablets. Looking at the differences you wrote down, I would go for the medium. A bit small I think even at medium. Never had a wacom because of price, but I know it's highly recommneded.
I would pull a tape measure out and look at it. Or even a ruler. I think the small is way too small.

No, the small wouldn't be worth it. You should check out the one I linked to. It's $60 new and much better than those smaller Wacoms. Though Wacom makes some better stuff on the high-end, I think Huion is better than the Wacom budget models. My last tablet was the older model of that Intuos and it was entirely unusable.

I did and I admit I wasn't sure - did a bit of research through Youtube and reviews and overall it gets a thumbs up, but thought I'd check here with people actually using them for my purpose of creating game art. You've confirmed my suspicions. A medium-sized one I can't get for such a bargain but will save up while I keep looking.

Thanks @cybereality I'll give it another look. The Wacom brand is the easiest to get ahold of near me and I'll admit there is probably a bit of loyalty from having one before... but at the end of the day whatever works, works.
