Hi all,

This is probably a question that has been asked many times.

As we are currently developing our game, we are always looking in to our pipeline and asset creation. As we progress with the project, tools and plugins are developed to make the process easier or to expand the engine to what's needed for the project.

One way to help fund a project is to have a marketplace. I know there's tons for digital assets. But how many are there for Godot plugins / addons specifically? Does the asset library support commercial addons / plugins? I know it's open source, but this is a way to help independent projects contribute to the community and (if successful) also fund the project.

I am looking in to releasing resources directly on my own platform www.madebylundahl.com in addition to having recourses available on other platform if there are any. This to help fund our own project and to help us stay more independent.

I know there's godotmarketplace.com but it seems people are skeptical about it? Or is there anyone that have experience with it?

If there aren't any solid marketplaces out there, is there any interest in having one created?

/M

But does it have to be godot specific? There's plenty of godot users using itch.io and tools and assets can be sold there just fine too.

Hey!

Ah, no, it doesn't have to be Godot specific. But I'm thinking, if you release something where there's a huge mix between stuff (and other engines) that Godot stuff might get lost in a very noisy environment. And then there's also the marketing perspective, if it's Godot specific then it becomes natural for a Godot developer to go there. I'm thinking, normally you have spotlighted sections, popularity sections etc. And it also expands the community by creating specific excitement.

I do not have experience with it personally, but I know one of the issues with the marketplace is that it says that 10% (if I recall correctly) of the proceeds are donated to Godot, but the Godot team haven’t seen any donations from them, which makes it kinda suspicious.

I would recommend itch.io . I have seen other Godot assets released there.

Well, godot specific tools and resources can always be sold on itch and highlighted and linked in communities like this. It'll have to do until there's a properly official Godot asset store, which as far as I'm aware is under consideration - just not an immediate priority.

Thanks for the input guys.. I checked itch.io briefly, it seems interesting.
