That looks really nice but 2,000 tris for a small prop like that seems expensive for games.

Depends, definitely too much for a 2005 game, but seems about right for a 2015+ game.

With godot 4 and it's automatic LOD/mesh decimation system on the horizon this would actually be the way to go: Only model your high poly and just rely on the auto LOD unless it's a specific niche asset where the LOD doesn't work for one reason or another.

Thanks for the reply, Glad you liked it....About the 2000 Tris, this asset was meant to be a hero asset hence this needed to look good from closer camera angles too. This meant we needed to maintain proper curvature at most places for it to not look chunky. Also, there are functioning internal parts of this asset which you can move around to show the articulation of the piston, which increases the poly count too....For using it as a background prop you could remove the internal parts which could remove quite a few polygons or remove a few bevel loops which cuts down the poly count significantly....We prioritize the asset to work from a closer distance as that might be the intended use case for the certain asset we provide as it's easy to cut details from it but difficult to add any with it being fully textured, hence the high poly count....hope this clears the concern of the poly count and have a Great Day!!??

Yeah, that makes total sense. Thanks for sharing.

Glad we could help!

Well the needle at least looks clean. I'm sure it's perfectly safe. Fantastic btw
