Could you develop a bit please? Because as far as I remember, Kro$oft has never been known for its philanthropy and honesty towards its users.

--Google has a record of constantly shutting down products and services (and that's not to mention their constantly shifting rules for sites like YouTube). --Apple meanwhile tends to be hostile towards Open Source (banned on iOS) and desires to have everything locked down and controlled (to the point of even making the drivers for the Mac's GPU). --Microsoft at least has open-sourced parts of their DirectX code and has even introduced pieces of Linux (for developers) into Windows 10. They have also not made any solid moves in locking FOSS out of Windows completely (outside of special editions which end up failing anyway). It's not perfect though (Smartscreen), but Github could've made worse choices.

I knew about Google and Apple

But I’m surprised about DirectX. Well, if Microsoft changed its point of view, fine. But we all have heard Steve Balmer saying "Linux is a cancer" Anyway, I’m still suspicious.

It is rumored that Github was losing money and needed a new owner to keep the service going (or otherwise they would not have approached Microsoft). Github going dark would've been a much worse thing

Because open source code is something anyone can share, Microsoft or another buyer doesn't matter so much. While for commercial projects i won't use GitHub for storage. Everyone is free to choose where to store and manage things how they want.
