Your best bet is to follow Google's guidelines really, i've spent a while reading them up just a few days ago. Use test ads for experimental purposes, ads with mediation are more tricky, never click ads while using your own application, etc, etc.

Slightly out of context, are you building your app on Windows or Linux? I'm having a lot of trouble compiling my app on Windows.
