@Rukiri said: What was wrong with MyBB, PhpBB, etc? No clue, but I'm guessing administration. Would have been before my time administering here.

Not sure I agree, it's fairly comparable to discourse just doesn't automatically reload the page for new messages.

What was wrong with MyBB, PhpBB, etc? Discourse is a good move but it's not great to navigate unless you use the search feature.

Discourse is a good alternative to forums, it is lot more active with more people connected. The biggest issue on Discource is you can't create your own thread, when you post some interesting thing to share, it will disappear and won't be visible anymore. The search won't work if it is someone posting a news or something you never heard about before.

Contrary to what I might have said earlier., I tried a bit Discourse as simple user (with blenderartists .org as I check it regularily). I found no problems at all to find what I wanted to. It is just a matter of habits in my opinion. @MagicLord : But I haven't tried to post anything yet.

Considering Vanilla, I could agree on some points but it is really easy to manage.

About MyBB is abit similar to PhpBB, I Liked it much few years ago. Retried and installed a theme, some plugins, a quick and dirty configuration… To finally realize that the email notification did not work – apparently a recurent issue with MyBB. The good point is that it have largely less weight than:

PhpBB : I run it personnally. Yes, heavy weight, not that easy to masterize compared to Vanilla, but maybe because of many more options (on Vanilla on some cases and for basic stuff, you have to install plugins). - Tutorials easy to find - Wide community(ies) so easy to find help - Upgrades are easy and trouble-free compared to some others.

I have a funny suggestion. Why not using a home-made forum build on Godot, thanks to the various control nodes and the HTML5 export template ? More contributions will be possible from godoters if the source code is in GDScript. I admit I'm not aware of all the difficulties but I just want to throw a funny idea and see what happens. :p

The thought has occured while I was looking to see if there were any good python/django based BBS but no, building something from scratch would be a huge project.
