Truth is, I can not code. I always wrote, or modded games when possible. I made something with the spring engine. And I always made my own GUI in Linux. This GUI Style was later copied by windows and is the new all white, flat Win10 style. I love more to make missions in Star Trek Online than play the game.
A few years now I have some project Ideas in my head. One is a DAW and I fear that other companies slowly make it. One is a 4X game, "Master of Orion 2,5". I hear now, that MoO 4 is a relaunch of MoO 1. So I think they also make it before me.
QUESTION 1: But I want to try it anyway. So, is there 2D turn-based example tutorial game to mod anywhere?
The next thing is a RTS game. As I said, I made something in spring. But as I am not good in coding, I only could make Skirmirsh games and not a full game with a start menu and missions to tell a story. But I really think I have a good idea. I found a Stratagus-Engine Game, which I may be able to mod into what I want to do.
Project 4 and 5 would be a Multiplayer Roleplaying Game or a Singleplayer RPG for a start. Ideally I would merge 3 game types into one. RPG with egoshooter elements and point-and-click adventure elements and simulation like Sims.
But this is very hard. I would start with a simple top-down RPG like Zelda in space. It is like Star-Trek-Online, but with a focus on living on a spaceship But it should be in a 3D engine because fighting top-down is not so cool. The space map would be 2D as you can only move in two dimensions with a third-person view. So it looks like old RTS only that I can look into far distances when I zoom in or see the map from above when I zoom out.
QUESTION 2: Is there a 3D tutorial game for an open world RPG? Or is there on in 2D which I can use to see how the mechanics work?
Here I could describe the RPG Idea but the text is a full A4 page, so I do not...
