Hey everyone, I am new to game dev although a seasoned programmer for other apps. Is the indie game dev a lucrative market? Sure we all know about the Angry Birds success stories, but how many of you have made a decent amount? It seems like to me that the market is saturated now, but I am not certain.

Google this, and you will find five million articles and threads about it. I would say the bottom line is: if you make something good and do adequate marketing, you will make a living.

You should watch these and try not to cry :D

I doubt that people in this forum have experience enough to answer your question. Maybe 1% of them which are too busy to be looking at the forum anyway :P

I actually got really encouraged by these two talks. The point seems to be: There is no easy rout. It is very difficult, it is hard work. Sometimes we are led to believe that some people are chosen to be successful when, the truth is, they worked their asses of. This "magic successful miracle" led the second speaker to mental illness (as far as I understood), questioning "what do they have that I don't?", etc. So yeah. If you want recognition, you will have a long way to go.

So true. It's actually quite insulting to assume that someone got where they are in life or their career through luck or a quick win. Whether they're an indie developer, an artist, illustrator, designer, writer, etc, you can bet they got where they are through perseverance, effort, and a hell of a lot of failures.
