Modern (good) SSDs are capable of handling very heavy writes for years. As long as you stick to a decent brand (Samsung, Crucial, Sandisk, and Intel are some of the better ones), SSDs should actually outlast HDDs. Even older, cheaper ones are more than capable of handling fairly heavy use for quite a while.A better argument for HDDs is capacity: SSDs have come down in price a lot in the last few years, but platters are still a lot cheaper for mass storage.
