Has anyone ever tried extending a stable Godot engine build with features from master branch?

This might sound silly but, has anyone ever tried extending a stable Godot engine build from source with features (modules, nodes, classes, servers, etc) from master branch? If so, how was stability with the new features? I'm just curious if anyone had ever attempted to do this.

    This line of inquiry makes little sense to me. Back-porting some small features, and mostly fixes does happen though.

    I'm more of just making casual conversation than anything. It's fun thinking of all the possibilities Godot offers. But if this isn't the place for it, sorry.

    Nah I mean, it would be a huge job back porting features like that, and the end result would be basically just the next-major-release-lite
