Problem with 'better collada' export plugin for blender.

newmodelsnewmodels Posts: 158Member

I tried to enable the collada plugin but it does not work. No export for better collada shows in the export manual. Blender shows that it is installed and enabled. I want to export my 3d models using the better collada plugin, so My dae files will be better.

What version of Blender are you using? Last I knew, the Better Collada plugin does not work with Godot 2.8.

However, Artell on Twitter posted that they ported the Better Collada plugin to Godot 2.8:

If you want to use the Better Collada plugin with Blender 2.8+, I would recommend checking out the linked GitHub repository and see if the new version works better. If that does not work, I would suggest installing Blender 2.7 and using that to export the Collada files. That is the setup I currently have, and it works decently most of the time, so long as I am not using Blender 2.8 specific features.

I am using the latest release, blender 2.8.2. Collada plugin fails for 2.8.1a. I followed the link and tried the git repository, but it did not work. I think I would have to roll back to the 2.8 or 2.7b to use collada plugin. For now godot uses glb and works really well for my models. It imported camera and lights but the lights did not seem to light up the model. I did not test the camera, I was testing the animations.

I remember godot has another plugin other than collada, I will look to see if I can find out.

I did my search and found out that godot is not developing the dae exporter anymore. This is because they are developing a blender to godot scene exporter.

    http://docs.godotengine.org/en/latest/getting_started/workflow/assets/escn_exporter/index.html
I tested this in 2.82 and it works.

Great! I'm glad you were able to find a solution.
A shame that the dae exporter is not being developed anymore, but it is probably for the best.
